parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Mc

Mrs. Carey arrived here Wed
nesday by train.
Officer Leaves Lieut. Harold
W. Howard of the arson division
of the state police, with head

state this morning after spend
ing the past two days here on
routine business.

summer here, is confined in

Chanev Here H. F. Chaney,
president of the Medford Cor
poration spent the past two days
here on an inspection tour. He
was the house guest of James
Owen at his Siskiyou Heights
home during his stay. Mr. Owen
is general manager of the cor
poration. Building Permits The Gil

Jackson boulevard and Central
avenue at a stated cost of $2,500.

Vacation Soon Earl York,
clerk at Medford postoffice, will
begin his annual vacation Sep
tember 1. He will attend the
American Legion state conven
tion in Seaside September 5, 6
and 7 as a delegate from Med
ford post. He and Mrs. York will
be accompanied to Seaside by
Mrs. Belva Aiken who will re
turn to Medford after the con
vention with other friends. At
the conclusion ot the convention
Mr. and Mrs. York will extend
their vacation to Washington.
Fire Set State forest patrol
headquarters stated today that
the three grass and brush fires
on Roxy Ann mountain yester
day afternoon were set. The
three fires merged into one that
covered 60 to 70 acres before it
was controlled. The fires started
on both sides of the roadway
Just above the unoccupied Pres
eott CCC camp and burned away
from the camp buildings. It was
the second fire of the season in
this district attributed to incen

eight boys to pay SO cents each
for the six watermelons and one
squash they admitted taking
from a patch owned by A. L.

Hartwell, 19. William Davis, 19,
and his brother, Robert Davis,
18, all of Rogue River. Their
fathers appeared with them In
court. Judge Coleman suggested
the three youths help the young
er boys pay for the melons.

Herman Lee Hart. 24, was be
ing held in the county Jail today
on a charge of larceny by bailee
following his arrest by state
police in Grants Pass last eve
ning. Hart, according to police,
drove a 19.19 Mercury sedan
away from the Gates used car
lot here on a purported trial
spin, and failed to return the
machine.
Police said no date had been
set for Hart's hearing.
