Sommers of Talent drove cars involved in a collision at Newtown street and Stewart avenue Tuesday evening, a re port on file said today. Ma chines driven by Clarence E. Powell of route 1 and Victor Sparlin of Ashland were involv ed in a slight mishap at the Intersection of Pacific highway and Mc Andrews road Tuesday afternoon, according to a report on file today. He reported good luck. Benefit Dance Crater Lake aerie. Fraternal Order of Eagles today announced sponsorship of a benefit dance for a needy fam ily. The dance will be held in the nir-conditioned lodge ha'l at 42 North Front street at 9:30 p. m. Thursday after the regu lar weekly meeting. All Eagles and their guests are invited. Holding Own The condition of Emil Meisenhoelder, 21, con fined in Community hospital with a fractured skull and a broken right leg. was said by his attending physician today to be "slightly better." The youth. the doctor stated, ws holding his own "very well," although he still was in a critical condi tion. Meisenhoelder suffered his injuries when the bicycle he was riding crashed into a car operated by James W. Stewart at West Sixth street and Oak- dale avenue Sunday night, ac cording. to the police report. New Assistant Roy F. Baker, manager of the J. C. Penney store here, today announced an interchange of two assistant store managers in the Penney organization. Lawrence L. Lay man, with the Penney company for ten years, is the new assist ant manager of the Medford store, having been transferred from the store at Toppenish, Wash., where he was also assist ant manager. Here Mr. Layman replaces Robert G. Fairies, who was transferred to the Toppen ish store where he will con tinue to serve In the capacity of assistant manager. Lady Buck land, widow of Lord Buckland. and sister-in-law of Lord Cam rose, publisher of the London Daily Telegraph, today captured a nazi aviator who had been roaming England nine days. Lady Buckland came upon the airman as she motored along a country road near Bristol. Noting his unusual appear ance, she questioned him and then marched him off to the au-1 thorities. Aug. 7 Three men were killed today In a terrific explosion that wreck ed a powder-processing building of the King Powder company, at nearby King's mills. They were Charles Resibois. 25. his son; Hobart Combs, 35, and William Reed. 45. The powder plant, one of the oldest in the United States, oc cupies scores of small buildings along a one and one-half mile frontage. C. G. King, chairman of the board, said the plant was not operating on government orders and that these, "if we have any," were being filled at the firm's Ashland, Ky., factory.
