Cars driven by Carl Barnum of Dunsmuir, Cal., and Cath erine L. Earl of Medford were Involved in a slight accident 12 miles east of Butte Falls Sunday morning, a report on file said today. Louis Jennings of Medford and George H. Puntenney of Oaklrnd, Cal., operated cars involved in a slight mishap on the Crater Lake highway Sunday morn ing, according to a report on file today. Tonight's showing will be the final one at the Lithia. For Washington The senior and junior stenographer and senior and Junior typist exam inations announced last week by the U. S. civil service com mission are for the purpose of filling existing and future va cancies in Washington, D. C, only, it was emphasized today by Stanloy G. Sherwood, act ing secretary of the locnl board of civil service examiners. In formation may be obtained from Mr. Sherwood at the post office or at the state employ ment service, 45 North Fir street. Known Hera Hugh McClain, judge of Coos county for many years, who died at his home in Marshfield yesterday, was well known in this county. His son, Leo McClain, resided here for about three years while he was serving as a U. S. dep uty marshal pending appoint ment of a local man in this district. Leo returned to the marshal's Portland staff after serving here, and is still em ployed there es deputy. Judge McLain resigned as county Judge only recently because of ill health. CYCLIST'S SKULL X-ray pictures revealed yes terday afternoon that Emil Meisenhocldcr, 21. of ?41 West Second street, suffered a bad fracture of the skull when his bicycle ran into an automobile Sunday night, and hia attending physician said today the young man's condition was "very crit ical." The doctor said Mcisenhoel der was getting along as well as could be expected. The fracture, the physician explain- was lon and "tended from the base of the skull across the left temple. The youth also sustained a fractured lower right leg. Melsenhoelder. according to Information gathered by city police, rode his bicycle out of Oakdale avenue into Sixth street, crashing Into the left rear fender of an automobile operated by James W. S. forest service executives were making a study on the Rogue River national forest today of the effects of forest fires. The investigators were par ticularly interested in the effects of forest fires on the vegetation and soil erosion of the areas burned over. The study today was being made in the Butte Falls and Union Creek districts. The group intended to continue on tonight to Bend. In the group today were R. G. Johnson, professor of range management, D. G. Mumford. professor of farm management, and J. C. Moore, bureau of ag ricultural engineering, all at Oregon State college, F. H. Brundage, associate regional U. S. forester at Portland. Fred W. Furst. division of range manage ment at the Portland regional forest office, and Karl ' L. Jan ouch, supervisor of the Rogue River national forest. Those in the group, excepting Mr. Brundage, who arrived here by United Mainliner last mid night, arrived by car from Grants Pass yesterday in the Applegate district where a study of fire effects was made under I the guidance of Lee Port, ranger in charge of the Applegate dis trict.
