Kelly announced today that Jack Halsted, 43, had con fessed the brutal murder of Mrs. Florilla S. Crollc, 67, tt suburban Ocean Beach, March 23. 1838. The woman, her head bashed in and her body bearing multi ple injuries, was found in the blood-spattered kitchen of her home. Today a man telephoned the detective bureau and aaid he had something to tell the police. "I'll be on the corner of First avenue and Broadway," he sail. Capt. Kelly dispatched Detec tive Charles Glick to the cor ner. He found Halsted and brought him to headquarters. Halsted Is married to Mrs. Crollc's niece. He told Captain Kelly that he beat the woman to death with a piano stool the night before her body was found. He said he killed her for her money but only obtain ed $7.30. Police declared they have had him under surveillance, hoping to obtain sufficient evi dence to arrest him. M. E. Real Lakeviaw, Ore., Aug. 3. W) M. E. Real, 59, operator of tha Quartz Mountain service station and Lake county resi dent for 10 years, died here of heart attack yesterday.
