with 22 present. Upper Apple
gate Grange gave dinner July
20 for the bankers from Klanv

Grange also gave a dance the
same night and the bankers
stayed and enjoyed themselves.
Bert Harr gave an interesting
report on Pomona.

agent, Ed Finley, on prevention
of fires in dry weather.

bers. James McDonough gave
an interesting talk on air con
ditioning. A quiz contest fur
nished amusement, the prize be
ing won by Mcsdames Abbott

PLANS ADVANCED
AT BOARD MEET
Pinkerton to Have Charge
Of Barbecue Bigger,
Better Attraction Planned

Member of the Northwest Jack
son County Fair board met at
the city hall, July 26. It was
announced that F. A. Pinkerton
will have charge this year of
barbecuing the beef which will
be procured through the Gail
Market here. The public ad
dress system belonging to the
school will be used to furnish
music for the parade and the
queen's float decorations will
be in charge of Mrs. Willie Mc
Lean and Mrs. June Mapel.
Land products and Grange
booths will be handled in tenU
adjacent to the dance pavilion
this year, these departments
having been formerly housed
In the Deuel building now oc
cupied by the Oregon Ore Re
duction, Inc. Another Import
ant meeting will be held on
August 0, when many matters
of importance to the success of
the fair will be discussed.
An unusual amount ot In
terest is already being shown
in the fair to be held here Sat
urday, August 31. Residents of
Gold Hill are making plans for
a bigger and better event this
year.
As in the past the program
will include a parade, sport
events, big free barbecue, dance
in the pavilion and Inspection
of the exhibits throughout the
day, and several new features.
Mrs. Jeanette Greer has been
named chairman of the barbe
cue and she will have charge
of this main event of the day.
Live Oak Grange will sell
hamburgers, coffee and pie on
the city hall grounds, the Gold
Hill Grange will serve chicken
sandwiches, popcorn, cold
drinks, balloons and novelties,
the Boy Scouts have the con
cession for hot dogs, pop and
popeyclea, and the Ladles' Aid
of the Methodist church will
serve a baked ham dinner in
the church basement.
A. A. Walker has been ask
ed to officiate during crowning
of the queen and during the
presentation of the key to the
city from Mayor R. G. Wigle to
William Howes, chairman of
the fair board.
