Tonsils Excised H a rrlett Powell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Powell of Central Point, underwent nn operation for the removal of her tonsils in the Osteopathic hospital this morning. New Residence Floyd C. Headrick applied to the city building Inspector's office yes terday for a permit to construct a new residence and private garage at 34 North Berkeley Way at a stated cost of $3,600. To Salem Mr. and Mrs. El mer Vlckeron left this morning for Salem where they plan to spend the next few days visit ing. Returning home they will be accompanied by Miss Daisy Ralms, who will visit her father and mother here. Vacation Completed Miss Edith Nichols, secretary in the city superintendent's office, re turned -to Medford yesterday from a Wk a vacation spent at Crescent City, Cat. Miss Nich ols was accompanied to Crescent City and return by her niece, Louise Harnish of Medford. Beqlns Practice Dr. William L. Barnum today announced opening of his office for the general practice of dentistry In suite 561 Morgan building. Portland. Dr. Barnum is a son-in-law of Dr. R. B. Elliott Medford dentist. A former resi dent. Dr. Barnum is the son of Mrs. E. N. Eldridge of 424 South Grape street. Back from Trip Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Goldsberry returned home Sunday from a motor trip that took them up the Ore gon and Washington coast to Vancouver, B. C, thence to Banff, Lake Louise, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Jasper na tional park, Glacier national park and Wallowa lake. They were gone two weeks. Baby Clinic The monthly well-baby 1 clinic will be held from 1:30 to 4 p. m. Thursday in the Sparrow memorial suite of the Jackson county court house. Dr. A. E. Markcl, coun ty health officer, will be in charge. Miss Elizabeth McGal liard, county nurse, will assist. Parents are asked to telephone 1359 for appointments. Better Robert Joki. 13-year- old son of Mrs. Sylvia E. Joki of 527 Pennsylvania avenue. was reported today as almost wholly recovered from the fa cial Injuries he suffered last Saturday when ne lost control of his bicycle coming down Hospital hill and was catapult ed over an embankment near Sacred Heart hospital. Several stitches were required to close a torn lip. A companion, Low ell Cooley, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Mead Cooley of 648 West Palm street, also lost con trol of his bicycle but he was less seriously hurt, suffering minor scratches. To Vacation George Shreeve of 734 Alder street, city fire man, will leave on a week s vacation tomorrow for Port Or ford where he will Join Mrs. Shreeve and their two children. Michael and Patricia. Mrs. Shreeve ana the children have been visiting Mrs. Shreeve's parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. B Clark, who reside In Port Or-ford. Condition Same Sacred Heart hospital attendants re ported today that the condition of Eugene Parks, 24. was about the same as it was yestreday. better than fair but till seri ous. Parks, according to city police, fired a bullet from a 32-callber revolver into his chest early Sunday morning be cause he had been despondent over not having a Job. Guests from Taft Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Olsen of Taft. Cal., are spending a forti.ight at Diamond lake after a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R D. McCarty of Orchard Home Drive. The two families are friends of long standing. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty plan to spend some time with Mr. and Mrs. Olsen at Diamond lake and the Olsens will visit again at the McCarty home before terminat ing their sojourn in southern Oregon. Minister Dies Word was re ceived here today of the death on July 28 of the Rev. John W. Haman, pastor of the North- minster Presbyterian church In Portland. The Rev. M. Haman was once pastor of the Presby terian church in Grants Pass and had many friends in south ern Oregon. He resided in Port land at 5544 North Wilbur street. Survivors are his wife and a daughter. Miss Faith Ha man, Portland, and a son, John Haman, Los Anseles. Army Planes Here Five U. S. army Douglas observation planes were refueled today at Medford municipal airport. In command was Capt. W. Fitch, in spector of the North American Aircraft corporation, who were en route from Boeing field, Se attle, to Hamilton field. San Rafael, Cal., in a new North American basic trainer; and Capt. C. B. Overacker and Lieut. D. S. Dunlap. McChord field, Tacoma, to Sacramento air depot, Cal., in a Douglas bomber. Minor Accidents James H. Elliott of route 2 and Arthur Render of 24 North Bartlett street drove cart involved in a slight mishap on North River side avenue near Main street Monday afternoon, a report on file said today. Edward A. Caruthera of Altadena, Cal.. and Millard V. "Mouthpiece" f"3 If STOLEN LOG TRUCK IN J'VILLE State and city police this morning recovered in Jackson ville a 1937 Ford logging truck and trailer, owned by R. D. Chamberlain of Trail, which was stolen from its parking place at 10th street and South Central avenue sometime during last night. . The truck, with the Berl trail er loaded on It, was found aban doned and was apparently un damaged, police said. George Hathaway, driver, re ported the truck's theft at 5:30 a.m., and upon investigation po lice discovered tracks on the street which seemed to indicate another truck was used to tow the Chamberlain vehicle away. (U.B Earl Browder, general secretary of the Communist praty, today , petitioned the supreme court to I review his conviction on two charges of passport fraud. A petition in his behalf wai filed by Walter H. Pollak, hit attorney. The communist lead er at present Is free on bail. He was sentenced to four yean in prison and fined 12.000 by the New York federal court 1b which he was convicted. A previous petition for re view was turned down by the second circuit court of appeal. The Pacific Greyhound bus line today announced two local schedule changes now in effect. The morning stage to Klamath Falls now leaves at 9:40, five minutes earlier than heretofore. The midmorning southbound bus now leaves at 9:40 a.m., 15 minutes earlier than heretofore.
