MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON. FRIDAY. JULY 26, 1940. PAGE FIVE IN SECOND MEET CUES PURPOSES The painters and decorators union held their second open meeting Thursday evening at the Labor Temple. The meeting was presided over by Fred Lawrence, president. Several new applications for membership were received by the union's secretary, Joseph Marsh. Purpose of the two meetings was a better understanding be tween the master painters of Mcdford and the journeymen. It was decided that a complete reorganization at this time was necessary to give the journeyman work practically all season, thereby eliminating unemploy ment among the painters. It was further decided that all painting jobs should be given to local responsible contractors. LAt OI.D-t AsllloVKD UK. VIVAL. charlr, E. f ul ler. Contractors who carry full lia bility on other people's prop erty, carry state accident com pensation to protect their men from personal Injury and who carry state unemployment in surance to keep the Journeyman off relief or WPA during the slack season are the men who are an asset to our city and state, because they are carrying the burden which ultimately falls upon the city, it was point ed out. A state license law, coming before the next legislature, was discussed and approved by the master painters and journeyman alike. Should this law be passed, steps will be taken to obtain a local ordinance and license, thereby keeping local painting for Medford painters.
