Hill of Merrill arrived here Thurs day night to spend few days visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hulen of 229 North Ivy street. Back From Lv Lelwyn C. Breen, assistant adjutant at Medford CCC district headquar ters, returned yesterday from a four days' leava during which he visited his father in Seattle. Wash. Mr. Breen also visited friends in Portland. On Businass Trip Bill Dash ney, assistant to Ralph Cambell, attorney for the state unemploy ment compensation commission, was a Medford visitor yesterday. He left last evning to return north via the coast route along which he planned to make sev eral business calls. Flua Fire Chemical crew of the fire department was called this forenoon to the A. C. Got tig home at 1004 East Jackson boulevard where soot in the chimney had become ignited. The firemen stood by while the soot burned itself out. There was no damage. Benford of 830 Taylor street left recent ly for San Francisco where she will attend the fair and visit her mother Mrs. A. McRay, and her brother, Marion Sones. From Portland Mr. and Mrs. Irving L. Nason of Portland vis ited here Wednesday while en route home from Detroit where they took delivery of a new car. Flying North Lieut. F. Adams stopped yesterday at Medford municipal airport to have his U. S. Douglas transport plane refueled. He was en route from the Sacramento air depot to McChord field, Tacoma, Wash. Sistars Visit Mrs. Frank Neidhart of Chicago is a guest at the home of her sister, Mrs. Catherine Jay, 227 South Oak dale avenue. It was the first time in 31 years the sisters were together. Accompanied by her son Richard, Mrs. Neidhart ar rived by train Sunday. The visi tors will remain for two weeks. Small Fire Another small forest fire caused by lightning a week ago was discovered late yesterday afternoon and two men were combating it today. Although no word had been re ceived from the fire-fighters, headquarters here said the fire probably was small. The blaze was on the side of Goose Egg mountain two miles south of Crater Lake national park. To reach it, the fire-fighters had to walk six miles up a steep moun tainside. Fog today was" a favor able factor. Grass Firai The fire depart ment's chemical crew was called three times late yesterday to put grass fires out. A call at 6:52 p.m. took the firemen to 538 Mary stree; where burning trash ignited the grass. A grass fire at 4:45 p.m. at 514 North Bart lett street endangered a number of houses but firemen extin guished the burning grass before any damage was done. The blaze started in a blackberry patch but the origin was not known, firemen reported. In midafter- noon a large area of high grass j between Peach and Hamilton ! streets. Since It was burning briskly and no property was in danger, the firemen stood by j and let the fire burn off all the grass and thus remove a hazard. 2 Large Parking Lots 4 lb. 15c QUALITY Fresh Meats ' Dance Enjoyed The Youth auxiliary of Townsend club No. 2 enjoyed a successful dance at the hall on West Main street last evening. It was erroneously pub lished yesterday that the affair would be held Saturday night. Dances held Saturday nights in the hall are under different ; as their planes had been serv sponsorehip and admission is j iced. Capt. O. L. Grover corn charged, imanded the squadron. The oth- er officers were Lieuts. C. R. Quarantined Two cases ot Sneed, W. B. Putman. J. H. measles todav held the South Moore, W. P. Schwartz. W. P. Fork CCC camp in quarantine. Headquarters here said it was believed the disease would not spread as stringent measures have been taken to keep it in check. The illness developed among new CCC enrollees who arrived recently from the south. To See Centennial James L. Murphy, government supervis ing engineer on the Medford federal building extension and remodeling, and C. H. Post, the contractor's superintendent on the project, plan to leave by motorcar next Wednesday to at tend the centennial celebration in Salem. They will remain In Salem for the rest of the week. Denney of Route 2 drove cars involved in a slight acci dent at Main street and River side avenue Thursday afternoon, a report on file said today. E. E. Beau of Portland and Lewis W. Nutter of 826 South Central ave nue operated cars involved in a minor mishap on Main street be tween Bartlett street and River side avenue Thursday morning, a report on file said today. Mother Dies Mrs. K. C. El dridge, Sr., mother of E. N. El dridge of 424 South Grape street, died at her home in Port land Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Eldridge left for Portland a week ago to be at her bedside. Mrs. K. C Eldridge visited in Medford during the Christmas holiday period. She had a num ber of friends here who will mourn htr death. Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge plan to return to their Medford home early next week. ... To Install Officers will be in stalled at a special meeting of Rogue River council of the Knights of Columbus at 10 a.m. Sunday in the parish hall on South Oakdale avenue at Tenth street. Edward Tobin, grand knight, heads the officers to be installed. Installing officer will be L. J. Normand of Bend, dis trict deputy. Plans will be made for the annual Knights of Col umbus picnic August IS at the Union Creek forest camp. This picnic is to be attended by mem bers and their families of Med ford. Hartman left on the same plane for Oakland, Cal. Louis Amacher departed early this morning for Portland. R. D. Hartman arrived from Portland on the midnight Mainliner. H. C. Moore arrived from Los An geles last evening and the fol lowing passengers left on the same plane for Portland: Mrs. C. S. Alllngham of Mt. Shasta City, Cal., Miss R. I. Starbuck and George T. Scott. In Jail Held in Jaclison coun ty jail today were Eva Olsen, 27. her husband, Gordon Olsen, 30. of Chiloquin, and Reed Moline. 40. of Klamath Falls. They waived a preliminary hearing before U. S. Commissioner Bert C. Thomas in Klamath Falls and were- held in $2500 each for further action. The woman is charged with assault, being ac cused of firing the shot that wounded Annabel Jackson, 18, Klamath Indian, at a party July 14. The two are charged with giving liquor to Indians. The three were brought from Kla math Falls to the jail here last night by Paul Hanlin, U. S. dep uty marshal. HITLER CONFERS WITH RUMANIAN LEADERS IN Berlin, July 26. The staff of the theatre has temporarily named the cub Sandy because Sandy is a lady cub. However, the theatre is looking for a name for the lit tle girl bear and asks that all the kiddies in Medford and southern Oregon send In by mail a suitable name and out I of all the suggestions the cub will be named and a placard ' will be put on the cage with the name and the name of the little boy or girl whose entry ! was picked. This will have to be done real soon as the bear j has only a limited stay at the Rialto. The cage is arranged with a , tree in the centerand the an-1 tics of the little lady Include her gymnastics into the top of the tree, a delight for every person that sees her at the Rialto theatre.
