Filmed in Technicolor, the picture cap tures the great tradition of the proud south. Walter Brennan, that flre eatin', horse-lovin" old codger who was "Kentucky's" Acad emy Award winning star, heads an outstanding cast, including a couple of other award winners Fay Bainter and Hattie Mo- Daniel, Others are Brenda Joyce, John Payne, Charlie Rug gles and Marjorie Weaver. There's another player in the cast who simply must not be neglected. He's Ben Carter, in the role of Shadrach, darky stable boy. Maybe it was be cause he was inspired by the presence of the three award winners, or maybe it's because he's never had a chance be fore, but this colored actor al most steals the honors from his more distinguished players. The story centers on a moth er's aversion to horses after her husband has been thrown and killed during a fox hunt. Despite her inhibitions, her son becomes an expert horseman and. to further complicate the situation, he falls in love with the granddaughter of the horse trainer. All the glory, romance and traditions are developed In the Intensely human story, cli maxed by the spectacle of flam ing silks, flashing against blue sky and green turf at America's most spectacular steeplechase the Maryland Hunt Cup race.
