For seven innings the pride of Van Meter, Iowa, mowed down the A's without a hit, only one man reaching first by get ting a walk. Then Dick Siebert. first man up for the A't in the eighth, singled over second base. "Siebert't a first-ball hitter." Hemsley declared. "If it wasn't for that blister we'd have curved him on the first pitch. But the blister gave Bob trou ble when he tried to throw a n. .nrf k- m. it- one and he hit it.' The blister developed on the fourth finger of Feller's right hand and resulted, Hemsley ex plained, from the force with which the hurler gripped the ball. New York, July 14. (IP) George Victor of Chicago, a comparative unknown, and Bud I Ward of Spokane, national ama teur champion, flashed into tha finals of the 41st annual West ern Amateur tournament at tha Minneapolis Golf club today. Victor, a 22-year-old blond youth whose only other claim to prominence was that he one won the Chicago district junior title, spilled Jim Ferrier of Syd ney, Australia, amateur and open champion in that country, 1 up, in a tight 38-hoIe match. Ward had a much easier time in blasting out an 8 and 7 triumph over Harry Todd of Dallas, largely by reason of some deadly iron play to the greens which left him many times In position to putt for birdies. For both Todd and Ferrier the defeated, it was a case of losing largely by reason of in ability to sink short putts. Ferrier, co-medalist of the tour nament, had run a string of six consecutive rounds in the tour nament, under par until in the afternoon 18 holes when he needed a medal of 74 strokes. Todd made a miserable showing on the greens throughout his match and particularly during the afternoon round. You'll enjoy the Fresb Sea rood from Holly '. 125 E. Sixth.
