He plans to at tend the rodeo there tomorrow. Visitors Arrive Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Brink of Klamath Falls arrived here today to visit Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hanlin of 1016 East Jackson boulevard. Fined $10 Alva E. Mansfield of Medford, charged with driv ing a car without 1940 license plates, was fined $10 In city court this morning. Fosior Here Jack Foster, president and general manager of the Eugene Coco-Cola bottling company, arrived here by train this morning from Eugene. He left by plane this afternoon for Los Angeles to transact busi ness. Minor Accident A city po lice car operated by Officer Walter J. Reinking and a ma chine driven by Margaret J. Kurtz of Jacksonville collided at Ninth street and Central ave nue this morning. Nobody was Injured, but a front fender and headlight were torn off the po lice vehicle, the report said. Becomes 111 Ed Hanley of Seattle, who arrived here yes terday morning to attend the funeral Saturday of his sister, Miss Alice Hanley of Jackson ville, became suddenly ill and was forced to return to Seattle on last night's train. Accom panying him back home was Mrs. Ella Bush of 826 East Main street, another sister. Dies In South Word was re ceived here today of the death of Mrs. Barbara Koontz July 3 in San Jose, Cal. Mrs. Koontz formerly lived here; she moved south in 1024. Her husband passed away in this city a num ber of years ago. She is sur vived by a daughter, Mrs. Harold Eabb of San Jose. Mrs. Koontz had a number of friends here who will be saddened at learning of her death. The fun eral will be held tomorrow in San Jose. Visitors Lear. Mrs. John Flanagan and her daughter Miss Rita Flanagan, left by train Wednesday night for their home In Washington, D. C. They plan ned to stop for a tour of Yel lowstone national park. They had been guests here at the home of Mrs. Flanagan's son-in-law and . daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Murphy, 1134 West Ninth street. Mr. Murphy Is government supervising en gineer on the Medford federal building remodeling and exten sion. Divine Leaves Dr. Sherman L. Divine, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, was called to Seattle this morning to con duct the funeral of James Thomson, Jr., son of the Rev. James Thomson, D.D., synodical executive of Washington and Oregon. The young man was drowned in American Lake, Wash., yesterday. The Divines and the Thomson families have been close friends for over 40 years. James, Jr., was baptized by Dr. Divine when he was a baby. Dr. Divine made the trip by motorcar. Young Leaves Harry Young left by train last evening to re sume his work at Parks Air col lege. East St. Louis, 111., where he Is making an outstanding record in aviation course and administration. Classes reopen July 8 after a two weeks' sum mer vacation. The four-year course is completed by students in two years. Last week his mother and sister, Mrs. Lois Young and Helen Young, ac companied him to Portland where they visited his sister, Joyce, and other relatives. Mrs. Young's mother. Mrs. F. L. Cook of Eugene, returned home with them for a few days' visit Plane Passengers Passengers leaving by United Mainliner this forenoon were Charles D. Pool, to San Francisco, and Jack Fos tor, to Los Angeles. C. C. Mar tin arrived from Portland on the midnight Mainliner and P. K. Bekeart of Hornbrook, Cal.. left on the same plane for San Francisco. J. N. Laughead ar rived from the north last eve ning and Gill Paltridge and Miss Nola Frey of Klamath Falls left on the same plans for Oakland. Cal. Jack B. Dodd left yesterday afternoon for Seattle. Drunk "Floated" George B. Campbell, 40, charged by city police with drunkenness, was ordered to leave town immed iately this morning or spend 10 days in city jail. He said he would leave. Picnic July 14 The annual Oklahoma picnic will be held in Dover park, Rogue Rivei", on Sunday, July 14. All families from Oklahoma are Invited to attend. Each family is asked to bring a well-filled basket. Baby Clinic Monthly well baby clinic for July will be held in the Sparrow memorial suite of the Jackson county court house next Thursday. Ordinar ily the clinic is held on the first Thursday of each month but was deferred a week this month because of the Fourth of July holiday. Halleyharris, Fort Lewis to Mof fett field, each piloting a Doug las observation plane. Call Here Dr. and Mrs. Silas Andersen of Minneapolis, Minn., called upon friends here yester day. Accompanied by their two children. Dr. and Mrs. Ander sen were on a vacation motor car tour of the west. They came here from Montrose, Cal., where they had been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Seiler. Mrs. Seiler being a sister of Dr Andersen. The travelers con tinued from here yesterday aft ernoon to Cottage Grove where they were to visit other friends. CITY AND ESCAPE HAZARDS With no city or forest fires here on July 4, Rogue River na tional forest headquarters, state forest patrol headquarters and Chief Roy Elliott of the Medford department today expressed their appreciation of the public's cooperation over the hazardous holiday. So far as untoward incidents of any kind were concerned, it was a particularly quiet Fourth of July, though thousands of per sons enjoyed themselves in var ious ways and at various cele brations during the day. McEntee, CCC di rector, said the corps had work ed out a "setting-up" routine which deviated from that of the army only in that rifles would not be used. He instructed camp commanders to hold a 15-minute exercise period each morning before breakfast.
