Awning Fire Panel of an awning over a window at the back of the Western Union of fice on West Main street was burned this afternoon. The lire department's chemical crew was called but the blaze had been put out with a garden hose when the firemen arrived. Cause was not determined. Six minutes earlier, at 1:52. a chem ical crew was called to Mc Andrews road and Queen Anne avenue to put out a grass fire in a vacant lot firecrackers shot off by some boys igntied the grass. Crass Fire The fire depart ment's chemical crew was call ed at 5:44 last evening to put out a grass blaze at 317 Port land avenue. Earlier in the afternoon the chemical crew an swered a grass fire call at Ulli and Peach streets, but it was a false alarm as the grass was being burned properly under permit. ... At Airport Maj. G. P. Tour tellot stopped at Medford mu nicipal airport this morning to have his U. S. army Curtks pursuit plane refueled. He was en route from Moffett fild. Riverside. R. Chafee and George Kinkaid arrived by Mainliner this forenoon from Portland, and departing on the game plane were C. I. Paulson, to San Francisco, and. William Tinker, to San Diego. Ray Fd- wards and George A. Webb ar rived on the midnight Main liner from Portland. Webb is a United station attendant here. Mrs. Ruth Reed arrived from San Francisco last ni?ht. I. K. In charge of the installation was A. L. Hawn of Eugene. member of the board of gover nors of Lions International. George W. Newberry was pre sented with a past-president's pin and was highly commended for nine years of 100 per cent attendance at all Lions club meetings. The other short on the pro gram is "Television Preview," one of the popular Paramount Paragraphics. With Ted llusing narrating, the exceptionally en joyable reel has Bob Hope, Lan ny Ross, Bob Burns and Akim Tamiroff before the television catnaras and on the television screen of a home. He was well known here, and had been janitor at the Owl club for the past several ve.rf. He is survived by two ons. Robert and Roy Schnurr, and Miss June Schnurr. Ho was a member of ti.e Medford Eagles lodge. Funeral services under the direction of Crater Lake aerie of Eagles will be conducted from the Perl Funeral -Home Saturday at 2 p. m.
