farmer and therefore was not
entitled to such a privilege. J.
D. Mtckle, director of the state
department of agriculture, con
vinced the attorney general ot
his error by citing statistics com
piled at the state college show
ing that bees are largely re
sponsible for pollination of
crops valued at 912,868,738.
The attorney general wrote:

year have resulted in consumer
savings of approximately $1,
400,000 annually, Ormond R.
Bean, public utilities commis
sioner, reported to the governor.
Bean, who hat just completed
his first year as commissioner,
listed the work ot the P.U.C.
for the past 12 months.
Under the commissioner's
supervision 810 rural line ex
tensions were constructed by
electric utilities during the past
year, adding 4661 customers to
the state's electrical energy
users.
All 34 of the criminal prose
cutions under the motor trans
portatlon act were successfully
comnlated. Built wat established
and the offending parties were
'fined. Bean said.
The commissioner said that
during 1039 there were 159
grade crossing accidents report
ed to his office. These accident
resulted In 10 deaths and 38 In
juries.
