MEDFORD MAIL TRTBUXE. MEDFORD. OREGON. FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 1940. ABANDONED CATSll aub MAIL'S Air Conditioned for Your Comfort FOR HUMANE UNIT Society Urges Delivery of VnwizM Pets at Shelter Instead of Abandonment So mny unwanted cats have been dropped off in the nelgn borhood of the Jackson County Humane society on Midway road that they have become wild, a menace and a aerloua problem the society laid today. A lookout ii to be maintained In the neighborhood and if any one is caught dropping off a eat he will be prosecuted under the Oregon law that prohibits abandonment of animals, the so ciety warned. The society made a plea that unwanted cats be delivered to its shelter where the animals re ceive humane treatment. When eats are abandoned in an un familiar neighborhood, they be come wild and it's practically impossible to do anything for them, the society pointed out They become too wild and wary even to be caught in humane traps, it was asserted. No Excuse The society emphasized that no charge is made for accepting cat for humane treatment True, it was said, a voluntary contribution is usually requested to help defray the society s ex penses. as there are no other sources of revenue for the care of cats. But if a person cannot afford a donation, the cat is ac cepted Just the same. It was de clared. So, it was pointed out, there Is no excuse for dumping off cats and leaving them ex posed to starvation and to a life of wildness and prolific repro duction if they survive.
