Crose made an inspection of state owned property here yesterday. A farmer Medford resident, Mr. Crose is property manager of the World war veterans state -aid commission and now makes his home in Salem. Merkel Leares Dr. A. E. Merkel, Jackson county public health officer, was to leave to day for Denver, Col., to attend a meeting of the western divis ion of the American Public Health association. He planned to motor to Denver with Dr. Sam Osgood, Josephine county public health officer. Cotton Here John Cotton of 'the Hotel Californian, San Fran cisco, arrived here yesterday on a business mission and is regis tered at the Hotel Medford. Mr. Cotton is a director of the Glide Foundation which has carried on gold mining operations in Jackson county through an af filiated company. The company recently completed a dredging operation on Foots creek. Here Baby Word was re ceived here today of the birth last week of a boy to Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Mondot of San Francisco. The baby weighed six pounds, 12 ounces. Mrs. Mondot is the former Miss Ruth D'Al bini, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Q. D'Albini of 45 Quince street. The baby has been named Michael John. The Mondots have visited in this city from time to time. Minor Aocidenti Dr. A .E. Merkel of 1023 Queen Ann ave nue and W. H. Kellog of the City Cleaner drove car in volved in a slight mishap at Fifth and Front streets Thurs day afternoon, a report on file said today. State Police Sgt. Ed Walker of 445 South Front street and Alvin R. Brandt of Not! operated machines involved in a minor accident at 10th and King streets Wednesday after noon, a report on file said today. New Residence Floyd V. Pal mer applied at the city building inspector' office yesterday for a permit to construct a new resi dence and private garage at 332 Mae street at a stated cost of $1,000. Chick Conway of 1125 East Main street applied for a permit to remodel at a stated cost of $300. H. L. Moore made application for a permit to re ehingle hi residence at 611 West Fourth treet at a stated cost of $100. Wilson of 340 South Riverside avenue, returned to her home this morning from Portland whither she wa called by the death of her sister, Mrs. Mar Jone Otterbein, last Monday. Mrs. Wilson was accompanied to Portland and return by her daughter, Mrs. Harry Goeller, of Kiamalh Fails. Bugler Wanted Company A, 186th infantry of the Ore gon national guard, announced today that two buglers were needed immediately. Bugler 18 to 24 year of age interested in serving with the national guard were asked to report at the armory. Bugler are given specialist'! rating. Company A also still has a few vacancies in the general rank. Exhibit Four paintings, por traying an artist' conception of the creation of Crater Lake were ihipped yesterday to Treasure island to become part of the Shasta-Cascade Wonder land exhibit at the Golden Gate international exposition. The paintings are the creation of H. S. Cleveland. They were to be grouped in the Wonderland ex hibit with Mr. Cleveland's large painting of Crater lake as it is today. The large painting has been part of the Wonderland ex hibit since the exposition was opened a year ago. . Plan Passengers Vic Vettle, United Air Lines radio main tenance technician, arrived by United Mainliner from Portland this forenoon. Out on the same plane went Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Ryan and J. E. Crosby, to San Francisco. Passenger de parting by Mainliner early this morning were Al Llttrell. to Portland, and Don B. Wilkins, to New York via Portland. Mrs. R. P. Weber arrived from Port land last midnight and B. L. Nyman left on the same plane for San Francisco. Mr. Wilkins and Ted Shoop of Klamath Falls arrived from San Francisco last night and leaving for Portland on the same plane were- Mrs. C. S. Allingham, D. E. Jones, Jack Robbins, George T. Large and C. O. Limecooly. J. T. Hughes and Wayne Sikes left for Portland by Mainliner yes terday afternoon. Good Will Visit Rio De Janeiro, June 21. Card Ewing, 82, industrial and civic leader of Spokane for the last 51 vears. died this morning after an illness of several months. At his death Ewing was president and treasurer of the B.
