Chief Elliott reported that
the fire was caused by hot
ashes that had been piled up

side. The live ashes, he said,
after smoldering for some time,
ignited the side of the garage.
There was no one at home when
the fire occurred, the chief

a grass fire at 718 West Jack
son boulevard.
The chief warned residents to
put ashes In metal containers
or to wet them down until they
were entirely out. He counseled
that if care is not used, there
is liable to be another epidemic
of fires caused by hot ashes.
