An drews was reported today to be recovering satisfactorily at her home, 1404 West Main street, from Injuries suffered when she fell in ner house last Thursday. She sustained three fractured ribs. Hera en VUll Mr. and Mrs. W. L. MrVay of Harbor. Ore are visiting relatives in the Rogue valley. They are divid ing their visit with Mrs. Mo Vay's sisters, Mrs. R. R. Childs of Griffin creek and Mrs. E. J. Leigh of Ashland. The vis itors arrived by motorcar last Sunday and will remain until Thursday. Inspects F. D. Macpherson, division of engineering at the U. S. regional forester's office in Portland, arrived by train this morning to spend several days on the Rogue River na tional forest. He will look over road work on the forest and confer with Karl L. Janouch, supervisor, on road plans for the remainder of the season. School to End Daily Vaca tion Bible school of the First Baptist church will conclude Friday evening at 7 with a display of work exhibits which ware made during the past two weeks. A short program will follow at 7:45. Mrs. George Tucker, superintendent of the school, reports a good attend ance and a successful school session. Job Tests U. S. civil service commission today announced open competitive examinations to fill positions of instrument maker in the federal service. The examinations will cover - four grades, with salaries rang ing from $1800 to $2600 a year. Full information may be ob tained at Medford postoffice from Stanley G. Sherwood, act ing secretary of the local board of civil service examiners. At Airport Late arrivals yesterday at Medford municipal airport were Capt. G. G. North rop, Sacramento, Cal., to Fort Lewis. Wash., in an army Doug las observation plane; and Har ry Asche, chief pilot for Max Fleischmann, in his employer's Lockheed Lodestar, Seattle, Wash., to Santa Barbara, Cal. Kerr Here Harley Kerr of Oakland, Cal., former Medford resident, is spending several days here visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Flynn on Lindley Way and East Main street. Today the visitor was a dinner guest at the home of Mrs. Alice Trowbridge, 905 West Tenth street. On Stud? Trip Miss Louise Basford, elementary supervisor in the Medford school system, left by motorcar last night for Santa Barbara. Cal., where she will begin a study of California school Fystems. She will make her study in a number of south ern California schools. Miss Basford expected to be gone about a month. In Town Mrs. John Litster of Sardine creek called upon friends here today. She was accompanied by her house guests, her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Mc Gee of Berkeley, Cal. Another guest of Mr. and Mrs. Litster at their Sardine creek home Is Mrs. Litster's mother, Mrs. Ma bel Forsythe of Berkeley. The visitors plan to remain for the rest of June. Court Citations Bruno W. Hughes. .10. of San Jose. Cal.. was cited by state police yes terday to appear in justice of the peace court today charged with driving an overloaded truck of machinery. Police said the overload amounted to 22.000 pounds. Harry Shep- hard, 37, of California was cited to appear today charged with operating a truck with an over load on one axle. Seven thou sand pounds too many were pressing on the axle, police said. Receives Position Albert L. Warner, brother of Mrs. C. Rease Braley of Valley View Drive, was recently elected 1940 president of the Radio Corre spondent association in Wash ington, D. C, according to friends here. Mr. Warner suc ceeded Fulton Lewis, Jr., M. S. S. commentator, founder and first president of the associa tion. Mr. Warner for ten years was a prominent Washington newspaper correspondent and a member of the famous Grid iron club. a New Houses A. Hydes ap plied at the city building in spector's office yesterday for a permit to construct a new resi dence at 42 Hawthorne street at a stated cost of $2,000. C. F. Cook applied for a permit to build a new residence and private garage at 133 Kenwood avenue at a stated cost of $1,600. Gerety of 120 Newtown street applied for a permit to make an addition to a private garage at a stated cost of $50. P.U.D. Loan Rejected. Seattle, June 12. A) The Reconstruction Finance corpora tion has rejected a Washington State Grange application for a loan to finance acquisition of private power company prop erties by public utility districts. Tells What To Do For It CHANGES IN UK IN UNIT REDESIGN ATIQN Several promotions, demotions and transfers which were neces sary with the redesignation May 23 of Headquarters company of the Oregon national guard to Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Btn., 186th Inf., were announced today by Technical Sergeant Howard E. Schrecengost, who was formerly staff sergeant. Sgt. Charles W. Lovell was promoted to staff sergeant. Sgt. Joe A. Dallaire and Sgt. William J. Thompson were reduced to corporals. The following men were trans ferred to Co. A in the grade of private: Sgt. Ralph E. Giem, Corp. Jessie V. Hamaker. Corp. John H. Neilson, Pvt. 1 cl. Rich ard W. Hewitt and Pvt. Donald Spencer. Sergeant Schrecengost is mak ing every effort to have all mem bers present at the weekly drills on Tuesday nights. Last night Pvt. Leo Wagner was absent without leave and Pvt. Charles Holbrook was absent with leave, according to Schrecengost. 10 PAY DIVIDEND Dividends at the annual rate of four per cent were declared by the Jackson County Federal Savings and Loan association di rectors at their June meeting Monday. Members holding investment certificates will receive dividend in cash July first and holders of savings share accounts will have their proportionate share of the earnings credited in their pass books. The distribution will ap proximate $14,700 for the six months' period ending June 30; and in addition to the dividend declaration, approximately $4000 will be added to the surplus and reserve accounts from earnings of the period. Payment of the dividend will bring total dividend distribu tion to over $84,000 since the as sociation was federalized in July, 1937. The Jackson County Federal Savings and Loan association is a member of the Federal Sav ings and Loan association, is a member of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corpora tion, a government instrument ality which insures all accounts against loss up to $5,000. (If) Joseph M. Schenck, chairman of the board and executive di rector of productions for 20th Century Fox Film corporation pleaded Innocent in federal court today to charges of income tax evasion, conspiracy, perjury and the making of false statements to a government investigator. ' A like plea was entered by Joseph H. Moskowitz, 20th Cen tury Fox story editor, described by the government as Schenck's bookkeeper.
