former Medford residents, are
enjoying a variety of novel ex
periences in their new home,
Nome. Alaska. Some of their ex
periences were related in a let
ter just received by Mr. Kelly's
mother, Mrs. E. E. Kelly, 911
Queen Anne avenue.
Recently the Kellys went on a
flower hunt, a general outdoor
sport in spring and summer, Mrs.
Kelly wrote. On the same Jaunt,
past Tort Davis toward Cape
Nome, they explored the ruins
of igloos built into the sides of
a hill.
And the food:
"We've been eating a lot of
reindeer lately, knowing we'll
probably never get it again once
we leave Alaska," Mrs. Kelly
said in her letter. "'1 have a
roast today, which I shall cook
with onions and potatoes around
it and a button of garlic wedged
in here and there. Last Sunday
we had reindeer liver and the
Sunday before reindeer T-Bone
steaks.
"The beef we get is not only
very expensive, but it has been
frozen so long it is tasteless: we
prefer the reindeer meat. Most
of the stores are running pretty
low and everyone is impatient
for the first boat to come in
with fresh supplies."
