W V tt 1 Ji Available as Warm, Fair Weather Helps Outings "Attractive conditions prevail for recreational use throughout the Rogue River national forest for the week-end. "At Fish lake limit catches of eastern brook are being taken by both still fishing with worms and trolling with bright flashers. There will be boats available at Fourmile lake this week-end. Good catches of sil versldes have been made there by bait fishing from the shore. Hyatt reservoir has not been up to par, probably because of cold weather. Boats and lunches are available there. Fair catches are being made with grasshop pers In the south fork of Little Butte, principally upstream from the Dead Indian Soda Springs "In the Union Creek district cold weather has been detrl mental to fishing In the small streams but good catches are being made with flies In uppei Rogue river. All streams In the Applegote district continue to be poor. River Fishing Good "In the Rogue river outside the national forest, fishing has been good all the way from Rogue Elk to Grants Pass, espe cially In the vicinity of Edge- wood park and Gold Ray dam. Limit catches of trout are easily taken with grizzly king, gray- gnat and professor flies. Many heckle with peacock body, black steelhead are being caught with small spinners, a few with flies, preferably grey palmer. Many salmon are coming up the river 'and are being taken with large spoons. "A trail maintenance crew worked In the vicinity of Seven Lakes during the past week. The workers found snowdrifts of seven to eight feet on the summit and, since this snow Is now becoming soft, the trip should not be undertaken at this time. They reported ex cellent fishing In the lakes and pleasant camping conditions there. "A day or two of warm weather will enable swimmers to enjoy the water at McKee Brldgo, Little Applegate and Beaver Sulphur forest camps. "The road from the Diamond Lake highway past Rabbit Ears to Hershberger mountain look out Is now open and. although it has not been graded, Is in fair condition. The road to Abbott butte via Woodruff meadows is good, as is also the one up Elk creek and to Huckleberry lake on the Ump qua divide. The loop road from Union creek to Huckleberry mountain and back to the Crater Lake highway may also be traveled. This upper coun, try Is beautiful now, with ex tensive areas of wild flowers in bloom." W. P. A.
