Outdoor Life Is Attracting S PLIT Increasing Numbers to Improved Sylvan Areas E The following recreational bulletin was issued today by Rogue River national forest headquarters: "As summer weather prevails In the valley, recreatiomsts are offered opportunity to return to the coolness and beauty of early spring in the Rogue River na tional forest. "Fishing conditions for the ueek-end are as follows: Fish lake continues to be good, with best results being secured by trolling, but with good catches also being made with bait. No catches are being reported at Lake o' Woods. At Hyatt reser voir, bass are being taken with plugs. "The season tor the lakes In Klamath county along the Cas cade divide opened on the 20th; the only one now accessible is blue lake where rainbow are be ing caught with worms and have also been noticed rising to flies. "Limit catches are being made In the south fork and middle forks of Rogue river with flics and helgamites. Above Union creek fair catches are being reported from the river and food catches from Hershberger, Crater and Buck creeks. Mill creek above Prospect should also be good along the Crater Lake highway. Squaw lake has been fairly good; a few catches In the Applegate river have been made lata in the day with flies. Water Level Down "Rogue river, outside the na tional forest, is reported to be excellent, with water rapidly lowering to summer level. The past few days of hot weather have brought out a large hatch of flies and best results are be ing obtained with parmachena belle, black gnat, grey palmer and red upright. Steel head are being taken on small spinners. "Roads newly opened this week are Blue Canyon, which is now in good condition to Blue Ruck lookout; Thompson creek, where the newly-constructed portion is now open to travel; find sections of the Ashland Loop, which may be traveled to Dutchman peak from the Apple gate side and to Bull Gap from Ashland. "The Little Applegata loop over Anderson Butte has been improved during the past week. The county road from the Klanv alh Falls highway to Hyatt lake has been maintained. The Hcrsh berger road is blocked with now three miles from the end at Hershberger mountain. In the Union creek district, all forest camps are ready for use and the larger ones have been receiving heavy patronage. Showers Abundant "Wild flowers are especially abundant In the Union Creek district, being in full bloom along the highways, in the tim ber and in the meadows. "In the Butte Falls district some of the camps have not re ceived complete spring clran-up but all may be used. At Lake o' Woods, the drinking water has been turned Into the Aspen Point and Rainbow camps and tne camps are in good condition. About 8:15, a man walked up to Mlsi Jerry R. Hermanson of SIS South Grape street, cashier at the Roxy theatre, and re quested one ticket. He laid on the counter a $10 bill, received his change and, instead of en tering the theatre, sauntered east on Main street across the Bear Creek bridge. A short time later a man ap proached Miss Bessie Dean of 16 Laurel street, cashier at the Rialto theatre," and purchased one ticket. He paid for It with a (10 bill, then walked off with out entering the movie house. It was not long afterward be fore city police were summon ed to both theatres and the clever scheme was revealed. The two $10 bills were, actual ly, only one $10 bill. It had been split perfectly, along with a $1 bill and the divided por tions of the $10 and $1 green backs had been glued together to represent two ten-spots. On one side of each bill the denom ination was $10; on the other side it was $1. Police figured out the man made $8.40 on the currency manipulation. His two theatre tickets amounted to 60 rents, he started with a capital of $11 and he successfully passed the two purported $10 bills. The man was described as being about 30 years old, wear ing a blue shirt and no hat.
