Communications Bill CarU Favora Sales Tax To the Editor: Your comment In your edi torial of January 12 which says: "We are all for pushing along the query of Senator Adams of Colorado: Whom do we fight?" My way of thinking your editorial is a masterpiece and one of your greatest. If we, the voters, would keep tnis idea in mind when we go to the polls and vote, we would elect men who would carry out this very idea In making our national laws, this would be a God-send to our country in these perilous times and more power to you in pushing this along. If a majority of our congress men would use Just good plain, common horse sense and take the profits out of war materials then they might get back to earth again in fixing up our peace-time national .defense bud get. Why can't they have a little sympathy for our old age pen sioners, transfer the huge war profits Into their depleted pen sion fund. Of course we might have a few less mllllonnalres to evade our income tax laws. Our own state is falling way short in their budget to our old age pensioners, Most of them are not getting one-half of what ttiey were promised because the pension budget is already de pleted and the pension board can not take on any more old age pensioners regardless of how old or Incapable of taking care of themselves they are. They Just get a little relief, Just a lit tle above starvation until there is more tax money made up Why don t you use part of your editorial space again? Sell the sales tax idea to our voters and get It on the ballot for the coming primary election for our old age pensioners to get an adequate pension. We well know the sales tax has been voted down thrice be fore. But it Is no crime to have It on the ballot again for a worthy cause. Thousands of voters have changed their minds the last couple of years and will vote for the sales tax now. Especially our old age pension ers who voted almost solid against the sales tax. They will now come out again and vote Just as strong for a sales tax to make them an adequate pen sion. Some of our politicians have left our old age pensioners hold ing the bag with nothing in It. Now every newspaper who fought the sales tax before should come to our old age pen sioners rescue and give them lift. Direct property tax can stand no more Increase and our faith ful liquor drinkers have gone the limit and some beyond the limit and have passed out trying to help the good cause, and we farmers are swamped by pro perty and personal tax. So wny shouldn't we voters get behind this worthy movement and get the sales tax on the ballot for the coming primary election? I say again, If we will use Just a wee bit of common horse sense when we go to the polls we win put the sales Ux across with big majority. W. N. Carl. Provolt, Oregon.
