SOCIETY AND CLUB NEWS OF THE WEEK By CLARA MARY DAVIS Juanita Y or ton Recent Bride in Nevada Service A marriage of interest locally was solemnized Monday, Janu ary 8 in Reno, Nevada when Miss Juanita Yorton became the bride of Moltery Miles Guile. The ceremony took place at the Episcopal church in Reno The bride wore a pretty violet colored redingote with black accessories and a corsage of rose buds. Attending the service were the bride's mother, Mrs. M. C. Yorton and her sister, Mrs. D. M. Thompson. Mrs. Guile attended school In Anaconda, Montana and upon coming here to reside, attended the Medford Business college. She was associated with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce until recently for al most two years and is well known in the city. Mr. Guile received his educa tlon in North Dakota. The popu lar young couple are making their home in Medford. Henspeter Home Scene of Meet Mistletoe camp, Royal Neigh bors of America met last week at the home of Mrs. Frank Hens- peter for a covered dish lunch eon. Myrtle and Blanche Arnold were the assistant hostesses. Mrs. Br ay ton Is Married in North Announcement was made In Medford yesterday of the mar riage on January 2 of Mrs. Anne Brayton to R. H. Stevens. The ceremony took place in Spokane, Wash. States Banquet Committees are Named Saturday An anticipated event for Tues day, January 23 is the annual Methodist church States ban quet sponsored by the Ladies' Aid of the church. - This marks the fifteenth year that the affair has been given. The traditional turkey dinner will be served after which a pro gram will be enjoyed. On the evening's entertain ment will be Rev. Joseph Knotts solos by Mrs. Elsie Carl ton Strang, accordion duets by Vera and Gene Rae, community sing led by William Brooks. Everest Faber will act as toastmaster. The guest speaker and the table hostesses will be announced later. Committee heads include gen eral chairman, Mrs. J. C. E. Myers an nounced the engagement of their only daughter, Miss Fran ces Myers to Lee Allen, son of Mrs. Lee Allen, Sr., yesterday. Both the bride-elect and Mr Allen graduated from the Med ford high school. Miss Myers is now a student at Pasadena Junior college. Mr. Allen attended the Uni versity of Oregon in Eugene and since then has been associated here with Hubbard Brothers. No definite date for the wed ding has been set. Group Returns From Bay Area Mrs. Guy Fhetteplace, her daughter, Mrs. William A. Buchanan and her mother, Mrs. Kittle I. Smith, returned last week by motorcar from the south. Mrs. Smith had spent the past several months in Los Gatos, Cal., with Mrs. Bert Anderson. Mrs. Phetteplace and her daughter spent two weeks visit ing in Carmel, Monterey and San Francisco. Mrs. E. A. Moore Visits Friends Here Being greeted in Medford by her many friends is Mrs. E. A, Moore, former prominent resi dent. Mrs. Moore plans to visit here for several days. With ' Mr. Moore the guest is residing tem porarily in Seattle. Mrs. Moore disclosed yester day that her son and daughter-in-law. Dr. and Mrs. Don Moore of Seattle are now the parents of a baby girl born on Decem ber 8 and named Elise. Dr. Moore is a former local man. Rev. Haslam Is Guest Speaker W.C.T.U. met Thursday at the home of Mrs. E. G. Roseborough. Guest speaker for the afternoon was the Rev. J. R. L. Haslam. His topic was, "Our Flag." Also a speaker during the meeting was the Rev. D. D. Ran dall, Sunday school missionary whose topic had to do with the work in the county. Mrs. Ran dall was also a guest at the meeting. The president announced committees for the year and told of plans being made for a rummage sale in the near fu ture. Mrs. H. Leclerc and Mrs. Guy Cox were the assistant host esses. Commissioner Girl Scout council convened Wednesday morning for the pur pose of electing new council officers, committee heads and committee members. Mrs. O. B. Morrow was again named commissioner. Others elected were Mrs. O. A. Eden, vice - commissioner and Miss Helen Bullis, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Glenn Jackson was named chairman of the organ izing committee. She will be assisted by Mrs. Myron Root. Assistant committee members are Mrs. Otto J. Frohnmayer and Mrs. W. H. Reichstein. Pro gram chairman is Mrs. Gipson Driver and her assistant is Mrs. Porter J. Neff. Mrs. C. Rease Braley was named public rela tions chairman. Her assistant will be Mrs. C. M. Kidd. Mrs. John Boyle will head the estab lished camp group and will be assisted by Mrs. O. A. Eden. The day time camp group will be in charge of Mrs. George T. Frey. Her assistant will be Mrs. Leon ard Carpenter. f- Relief Corps Hears Rev. W. R. Coleman Chester A. Arthur Relief Corps No. 34 met at the armory Thursday for a covered dish luncheon. Guests present were Rev. W. R. Coleman, new pastor of the First Christian church who gave a very interesting talk on Christian citizenship, and Mrs. Barneburg who represented the auxiliary of the Spanish American war veterans who gave a short talk. At 2 o'clock the regular busi ness of the corps was conducted. The main business was the in stallation of officers for 1940 Mrs. Carrie Young was instal ling officer, Katherine Peterson installing conductor. The fol lowing officers were installed for the coming year: President, Elva Lough; senior vice-president, Bertha Newton; junior vice-president, Ethel Weed; chaplain, Anlce Currier; treasurer, Belle Littrel; secre tary, Carrie Young; conductor, Freda Lawrence; guard, Sarah Andrus; assistant guard, Hannah Einkoff; patriotic instructor Elsie Williams; musician, Nella Young; color bearers; Katherine Pelerson, Nettle Grover, Millie Tucker and Elizabeth Mulhol len. Travel Study Club Meeting Travel Study club met at the home of Mrs. H. L. Brown on Geneva street last week. Mrs. Janet Gutches presided at the business session. Mrs. Harold Larsen presented a tentative outline of the pro gram for 1940 which will in clude studies of Alaska, Canada and Oregon. Mrs. E. A. Faber conducted the program, Los Angeles to Guatemala City and Mrs. Lar sen read an Interesting account of a Caribbean cruise. Miss' Elizabeth Burr gave a report on Guatemala, entitled, "A Plane Trip From Magdalena River to Barranquilla." Masonic Dance Thursday Eve The second of the series of Masonic and Eastern Star dances will be held in the ball room of the Masonic Temple Thursday evening, Jan. 18th. STOP THAT Former local Man Weds Tacoma Girl In Recent Service Friday evening, January 3 at 8:30 o'clock Miss Edna Rozen of Tacoma, Wash., became the bride of Wilfred E. Biasing, son of Mrs. Grace Biasing of this city and a former Medford resi dent. The ceremony was performed at the. home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Amy Rozen in Montesano, Wash. The couple will make their home in Tacoma, after wed ding trip to Vancouver, B. C. Mrs. Biasing is a graduate of the Montesano schools and her hus band attended school in Butte Falls. Mr. Biasing left here to reside in the north in 1931. Barneburg Home Scene of Meet The Pythian club met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. H. W. Barneburg. After the regular business meeting, pinochle and bingo were enjoyed by the mem bers during the remainder of the evening, prizes being won by Hermine Klein and Hazel Anderson. A beautiful birthday cake was presented to Belle Yarbrough. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Austia Barneburg and co-hostess, Gene Bateman.
