Pech of 60 North Quince street returned Satur day from Newport where they spent a month vacationing. . . . Goes East Mrs. Alexander Mete of 300 Elm street left Sun day night by train for Provi dence Island, N. Y., where she will spend two months with her mother. At Matches Among Ashland residents attending the wrest ling matches in the Medford armory last night were P. D. McDougall, Allen Autry and Harry Chipman. . Snow Falls Half an inch of snow fell in the Union Creek area last night, raising the ground cover to an inch, Crater Lake national park headquar ters here announced. It was not snowing this morning, however. Weather was cloudy. - Melchior Here M. J, Melch ior, field inspector of the World war veterans state aid commis sion, is transacting official busi ness here and will remain until Thursday. He makes his head quarters here at the office of Carl Y. Tengwald, the commis sion's county representative, 125 West Main street. ... Skiing Poor A new fall of snow made skiing in Crater Lake national park today poor, rangers reported by radio. Six inches of snow fell during the night and at the time of the broadcast, 8 a.m., it was still snowing hard. Depth of the snow on the ground at head quarters building was increased to 54 inches this morning, deep est this season. It was described as a "medium wet" snow. S. civil service commission today announced open competitive examinations for the positions of assistant communications operator and under communications operator, civil aeronautics authority. The examinations are intended to fill existing and future vacan cies in region 7, comprising Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, with headquarters at Seattle. Wilson of Star route and Mrs Myrtle Merrifield of 228 North Central avenue drove cars in volved in a slight mishap at Main street and Riverside ave nue Monday afternoon, accord ing to a report on file today G. Myers of Klamath Falls and F. J. Knaak of Medford were operators of vehicles involved in a minor accident two miles north of Central Point on the Pacific highway Monday after noon, a report on file said to day. ' Plane Passengers J. V. Schwind and Vic Vettle, United Air Lines radio technician, ar rived from the north on this forenoon's United Mainliner. A. A. Young and Joseph Dysart left on the same plane for San Francisco. Mr. Dysart arrived from Seattle by Mainliner last night. Today's early morning plane and last midnight's plane passed over Medford because ot unfavorable weather for landing. Fined $10 Delmar Marshall of 1009 West Main street, taxi cab driver, was fined $10 in city court this morning on a charge of violation of the basic traf fic rule. Drills Tonight Company A and headquarters company, 3rd battalion, 188th infantry of the Oregon national guard will hold regular semi-weekly drills in the Medford armory at 8 to night and Thursday night. The new regulation slacks will be issued tonight to men of head quarters company. The mem bers of Company A received their slacks last Thursday night. ... Promoted Clarence A. Ting leaf, son of Mrs. Millie Tingieaf of Eagle Point, was recently promoted to the grade of cor poral in the U. S. army, it was stated in a press release re ceived today from Portland re cruiting headquarters. Tingieaf, who enlisted through the Med ford recruiting office in city hall and is serving his second enlistment, is with the 2th en gineers, topographic unit sta tioned in Portland. Prowler Reported Mrs. Merle W. Jarmin of 823 Sher man street reported to city po lice last night that a prowler was in the neighborhood of the Jarmin residence. Investigation by police disclosed that a table had been placed under a win dow of the Jarmin home and a box had been put on top of the table to enable the prowler to look into the house.
