Cats Permit James Walker of 204 North Ivy street was Issued a permit by the city building inspector's office yes terday to repair and reshlngle his residence at a stated cost of $400. Henson 111 R. D. Henson Is confined to his home in the Griffin creek district, severely ill with heart trouble. Mrs. Kenneth C. Downing of Spo kane, Wash., and James Stan ley Henson of Klamath Falls have been called here because of Mr. Henson's illness. They are the daughter and son of Mr. Henson. No callers are permitted. Dies In Spokane Mrs. Ida C. Wilson of Jacksonville was to day in receipt of word of the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Grace, Wilson, who died De cember 10 in Spokane. Mrs. Grace Wilson was well known In Jacksonville and Medford. She was the wife of the late E. W. (Curly) Wilson, a deputy sheriff during Sheriff W. M. Eingler's administration. . Driver Tests A state exam iner of operators and chauf feurs will be here from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Saturday to examine persons seeking licenses or per mits to operate motor vehicles. Applicants are asked to report between 9 and 5 to the exam iner in council chambers on the top floor of city hall. Exam inations are held here regularly every Saturday. Reports Theft I. E. Jackson reported to city police yester day that the battery of his car was stolen while the car was parked in the garage at 905 West Tenth street. Precise time of the theft could not be fixed as the car had not been used since a week ago last Sunday, the police were Informed. The garage was always unlocked, the report said. A camera and a flashlight in the car were not touched. Plane Passengers D. A. Wood arrived this noon by United Mainliner from San Francisco. Mrs. Gipson Driver left by Mainliner for Seattle, Wash., yesterday afternoon. Miss Patricia Clendenning re turned from Portland by Main liner last evening and P. R. Sutter left on the same plane for Phoenix. Ariz., via San Francisco. Mainliner schedules continued to be disrupted today by fog. ... k Snowing at Lake Snow was falling in Crater Lake national pprk at 8 o'clock this morning when rangers gave their daily radio report on weather condi tions. A small amount of snow fell during the night. The ground cover at 8 a. m. was 32 inches deep at headquarters. Park roads were open but were covered with the new snow over a layer of hard, packed snow. Tire chains were advised. Cloudy weather prevailed, visi bility at 8 a. m. being zero, the rangers said. It was thawing at Union Creek. Entertain Lions Miss Dor othy Gore, violinist, and Miss Alice Holembeck, pianist, en tertained the Lions club at its weekly dinner-meeting In the Hotel Medford last night. Miss Gore is Instructor of music at Pomona college in southern California and Miss Holembeck Is supervisor of music at the Lebanon high school. Their program was enjoyed so much that they were compelled to play a number of encores. Herb Sims and Fritz Nissen were guests of Leland Knox. Ray Marti, president, conducted the meeting. John, charg ed with disorderly conduct, was fined $5 and court costs in jus tice of the peace court yester day. The same charge against Richard E. Marsh was dismissed. The case arose from a mis understanding at a dance. Scottish Gift Dr. H. P. Cole man. Medford Center building, received a loaf of old-fashioned Scottish short bread as a Christ mas gift from friends in Edin burgh, Scotland. The bread came in a tin box by parcel post and was delivered to Dr. Coleman the day before Christ mas. Merrlfleld Leaves Rolland C. Marrifield of 228 North Central avenue left today by motorcar for Eugene where he will make preparations to enter the University of Oregon pre medical school. IS CALLED BY DEATH AFTER LONG ILLNESS Alma Sophia Scheffel, a rest dent of Medford for the past seven years, passed away at her home, 706 West 6th Street, Dec. 26 at 12:40 p.m., after a pro longed illness. Miss Scheffel was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, March 23, 1882 and moved with her parents to Butte, Montana when very young. After spending her early life there she moved to Mupert. Idaho, living there un til 1932 when she moved to Medford, living here continu ously since that time. While a resident of this city she has made many friends whoJ will be saddened at her passing. She leaves to mourn her de parture her mother, Mrs. Ther esia Scheffel, three brothers, Fred W. Scheffel and Leslie Scheffel, of Medford and How ard V. Scheffel of San Francis co: three sisters, Mrs. F. H. Rogers, and Dee Scheffel of Medford and Mrs. H. H. Lewis of Boise. Idaho.
