The scene of the first act was Santa's workshop, where the various toys were displayed and tried out preparatory to his an nual world-wide trip. Rebekah Confab Is Recent Event The annual home-coming of the Rebekah lodge was held last week in the I.O.O.F. lodge hall. A turkey dinner with served at 6:30 to over a hun dred members, visitors and guests. The long tables were deco rated with small Christmas trees and lighted tapers. Following the dinner the regular business meeting convened. Plans were made to distribute small deco rated trees to shut-in members and to assist the Odd Fellows with the Christmas tree and program held Wednesday even ing for the children. Collection of facts and Clubs Mary Davis Club Observes 32nd Christmas Program Event On Wednesday last, at the Girls Community clubhouse, the Wednesday Study club held its 32nd annual Christmas meeting. Against a background of frag rant Christmas greens, Mrs. Hay Lenox and Mrs. W. A. Hollo way, chairmen respectively of music and readings for the after noon, presented the following program: Schon Rosemarln: Silent Night, Holy Night Elmer Kyle, rtolinist; accompanist, Mrs. Carlton Janes. Mrs. Holloway gave an Interesting talk on -the quaint and unusual Christmas customs ot other lands. She traveled from Croatia, where ln their rellgioua celebration of the day they offer a little of all their beat crops of the year, to Germany, the country which first introduced Christmas trees to the world. She I said that Holland contributed Santa I Clause to swell the horde of lovely Christmas legends and that Norway and Sweden first gave us Yule loss and mistletoe. In England, where little Queen Victoria was the first to have Christmas, they celebrate with roast beef and plum pudding. There our Santa Claus Is called Father Christmas, and the day after Christmas Is Boxing day. Mrs. Holloway mentioned that th first record of any Christmas tree being sold was In 18B1, when An owner of trees, in need of money to celebrate ills own Christmas, sent a few to New York snd sold them. The custom universally observed is that of the Christmas candle. The program continued with two more enjoyable violin numbers by Elmer Kyle, The First Noel snd Oh. Holy Night. Mrs. Holloway read the Christmas story, "God Rest You Morry Gentle men."
