Allen Neads Official Group Dinner Dance Finale. A gala banquet and dance at tended by 150 men and women topped off a district 4 confer ence of the American Legion nd auxiliary here yesterday. The dinner-dance was held in the Hotel Medford after the afternoon conference, held sep arately by the men and women. Speakers at the banquet for the auxiliary were Mrs. Ruth Mathebet of Alameda. Cal., na tional vice president of the west ern division, Mrs. William Hors fall of Marshfield, Oregon state department president, and Mrs. Foy Young of Roseburg, district 4 president. Legionnaires who addressed the dinner gathering were Niel R. Allen of Grants Pass, Oregon atate department commander, Marvin O. Skipworth of Marsh field, district 4 commander, and Ralph E. Hargett of Lebanon, itate department vice comman . der. Scobey Toastmaster Officers who were introduced Included Carl R. Malone, Roseburg, Herb Christmas Cards Of Royal Couple Have War Motif London, Dec. 21. (P) King George's Christmas ard this year featured a pic ture of a Royal Air Force fighting plane, swooping through clouds, with the legend, "In a world of space." Profits of reproductions sold to the public will go to provide comforts for air force personnel. Queen Elizabeth's card pic tures a woman sewing on a Union Jack with the title, "For freedom." COTTON GINK GAVE IS Moore, Ashland, and H. J. Meir- ing, Medford. Lieut. Joseph W. Scobey was toastmaster. At the conclusion of the banquet the American Legion Kiltie band of Ashland entered the dining room and played a serenade for State Commander Allen. At the men's conference, held in the armory In the afternoon, the American Legion program for 1940 was outlined and dis cussed. The program was de tailed by Mr. Allen, who re cently returned from a confer ence at American Legion na tional headquarters in Indian apolis, Mr. Skipworth and Mr. Hargett. A similar program was carried out at the auxiliary's district conference, held in the Hotel Medford. ' District 4 embraces the posts of Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, Kerby and Roseburg. I Fred Goodcell, former secre tory of the Associated Farmers of California, said ginning com panies had contributed $7,431 to the organization in the pait three years and solicited mem bers from among the growers who delivered cotton to them. A letter from the secretary of the Producers Cotton Oil company of Fresno to the Asso ciated Farmers of Kern county was read, offering to distribute literature and application blanks to farmers under Asso ciated Farmer letterheads. "Our feeling," the letter said, "is that it might be advisable not to let the name of this com pany enter into the letter in anyway so that the association retain the proper designation as the 'Farmers' organization." The letter was not signed but was identified by Harry S. Add and let simmer for five mlnut the onions, celery, parsley and ham burger. Mix In the flour and add the rest of the tnpredlents. Cook slowly for 10 minutes. Stir often. Fruit Slaw 3 cups shredded cabbage cup diced apricots !4 cup cubed oranges 13 teaspoon salt 4 teaspoon celery seed 13 cup salad dressing Chill the ingredients. Combine and serve In a bowl. Chocolate-Chip Cookies cup fat cup dark brown sugar Vt cup granulated sugar 3 eggs, beaten 3 tablespoons cream 1 teaspoon vanilla V4 teaspoon salt Vi cup shaved sweet chocolate ' lt cup shaved nuts 3 cups pastry flour 1 teaspoon soda Cream the fat and sugars. Add the eggs and cream. Mix In the rest of the Ingredients and chill the dough. Drop portions from the tip of a spoon onto greased baking sheets. Flatten each cooky with the back of a spoon which haa been dipped In. flour or with the broad side of a knife.
