Kittredgc of San Francisco, regional direc tor of the national park service, said here. Preservation of remaining stands of virgin timber border ing the highways is necessary if tho Pacific northwest wants Its tourist trade to keep coming, he said. "It seems obvious,'' he said. "that the northwestern states could make no mistake If they definitely and deliberately set aside certain timber areas which could not be touched for the present. "There is no question but that the virgin timber stands In Oregon and Washington are part of the lure which brings many thousands of tourists to the northwest each year. The writer understands thai a cine-color picture, portraying vividly and dramatically what is being accomplished at this amazing "Child City" Is to be shown soon at our local theatres. The screen epic is only approxi mately ten minutes In length, but It portrays the everyday activities of these children. What they do, how they live and play . and how they are cared for. Their schooling: They are shown as they trip merrily from their cottages, their daily rou tine of school, play and home life. They study their lessons, re cite, go to meals, In most attrac tive surroundings, visit the store, choose their own clothing, go to church where each re ceives religious instruction in the faith of his or her parents. They are busy In various courses of trade instruction, and one sees them at night offering Up prayer to Diety as they pre pare for bed.
