(Spl) Phoenix Townsend club met in the Christian church hall De cember 11 with 22 members and one visitor present. The nom inating committee turned in 20 names to be acted on at next meeting, which will be a special meeting as the regular meeting falls on Christmas. Ralph M. Hayes, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. David Walker, was present and gave several ffiie numbers on the accordion. Rev. Brownrigg spoke on good citi zenship and Mr. Caster gave a brief talk. Christmas rush at the post office started In earnest yester day as incoming and outgoing mail and parcels mounted sub stantially. Long lines of persons dis patching Christmas correspon dence and packages filled the postoffice lobby throughout the day. The postoffice remained open until 6 p.m. Instead of closing as customary at noon. It will remain open until 6 p.m. again next Saturday, Postmas ter Frank DeSouza said. The postoffice annex on North Holly street near Sixth street was opened last night. Incoming parcels will be sorted and trucked for local delivery at the annex. The Southern Pacific com pany is now operating extra mail and express trains to han dle the Christmas business. The northbound train, coming from San Francisco, is scheduled to arrive here at 5:30 p.m., the southbound from Portland at 7:45 p.m. These trains do not carry passengers and are oper ated solely to handle Christmas mail and express. Obituary Four musicians of a south Medford resort pleaded guilty in justice of the peace court Saturday morning to charges of disorderly conduct, growing out of a fight at the establishment Friday night, and were each fined $5. The complainant was Herman Burgoync. The men, who were arrested by state police, were Danny K. Ku, 30; Phillip Freitas, 24; Josia Waiwaiole, 29 and Jimmy Toril, 37. Charged with operating an au tomobile with four persons over 12 in the driver's seat, William E. Morrison, 24, of Medford was fined $5 and $4.50 costs in jus tice court. Roger E. Card, 23. of Jackson ville was cited by state police to appear Monday charged with passing another vehicle with im proper clearance. Maggie B. Edwards Maecrle B. Edwards. riniioMor of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar B. Edwards, was born In Green field, 111., December 13, 1860, and passed away at her resi dence in Medford. 132 North Ivy. December 16, 1939. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Myra Bogart, and her brother, H. N. Edwards. She has lived in Medford since 1019 and had a wide cir cle of friends. She was a mem ber of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a past president of Etta Deuel Hubbs Tent, No. 11, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Funeral services will be held at the Conger funeral parlors at 1 p. m. Monday. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph Knotts, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery. All bicycles in the city must be licensed. Owners who have 1939 licenses will not be re quired to take a test for the 1940 licenses. Yearly license fee is 25 cents. There were 1,376 bicycles li censed in the city this year.
