By Witt Hancock Moscow, Dec. 15. (Pi The Soviet press reported Russia's expulsion from the League of Nations in dispatches from Gen eva today which described the, league as the "tool of the British-French bloc." The dispatches, which broke the Soviet union's silence on the expulsion yesterday, were not given special prominence. Until they were published, only an al most inaudible broadcast from London had been heard here of the league's action. Speeches Assailed The Geneva reports assailed the speeches of the Portuguese, French and British delegates and also that of "the notorious 'representative' of the unknown 'Polish' government." Both the British and French speeches, they said, "exceeded all known standards of cynicism and hypocricy. . . they copious ly shed crocodile tears about the alleged violation of the rights of Finland with the obvious pur pose of prolonging the war in Finland. . . it shows the shame ful aimliitinn tVta l.ainia ' xui v .lid league There was no comment here on the Geneva decision. Swedes Assailed The Moscow radio, which launched an attack on members of the Swedish social democratic party, made no mention of the League of Nations at Geneva (The euster notice was sent to the Kremlin by league of ficials in a telegrata last night.) "Slaves and hirelings of capi- talism and imperialistic interests have dared to abuse the glorious Red army, which with such un selfishness has lent its help to the democratic Finnish repub lic," said the radio attack on the Swedish party and its or gan "Social Democrat." "These so-called socialists have sunk so deep their news paper has reached the level of the worst Paris boulevard pap ers. But the whole world and even the Swedish people will realize the unselfish work of the soviet union and her army, the broadcast added. (About 40,000 men have been called up for duty in the Swed ish army as a defense measure, bringing the men under arms to about 150,000 compared to a normal force of 20,000. Lieut, Gen. Olof Gerhard Phoernell has been named commander of all military forces, a post filled only in anticipation of an emer gency.) Reply Expected A vigorous "reply" to the League of Nations action was expected by observers here in the next few days, accompanied by a bitter press attack. Since Russia had abandoned the league policy of collective security, some foreign quarters believed the expulsion would have little practical effect. However, these sources point ed out that it marks a further cleavage between the "British- French bloc" and the Soviet un ion, possibly driving the Rus sians into closer cooperation with Germany. An the Finnish front, the Red army headquarters reported a 75-mile advance in the Ukhta district in the Finnish Arctic area. While favorites held advances of fractions to 2 points or so, numerous issues were unable to shake off small minus signs and a wide assortment closed at Thursday's final levels. Brisk rallies in wheat and cotton futures inspired a little buying in the stock department. Transfers approximated 700, 000 shares. Tilting forward were Douglas Aircraft, United Aircraft, Glenn Martin, Eastern Airlines, Pan American Airways, Bethlehem Steel, Chrysler, Westinghouse, American Smelting and General Electric. Aeronautical stocks revived as hopes of more foreign orders were seen and it was learned the navy, in the deficiency bill to be presented to the next con gress, would ask for 518 planes to cost some $28,596,000.
