HEAVY DOWNPOUR
BREAKS DROUGHT
IN ROGUE VALLEY
Rain Follows Windy Night
More Forecast Precipi
tation Will Aid Farming.
Rogue River valley's extreme
need for rain was relieved this
morning when a heavy fall
started about 10:15. The down
pour followed a forty-mile-an-hour
wind which blew most of
Thursday night.
Rainfall this morning aver
aged about .20 inch an hour and
according to the local United
States weather bureau office if
this rate continued for four
hours today the month's defic
iency of .85 would be wiped
opt and if it continued for
twelve hours the season's defic
iency of 2.73 would be washed
away. The bureau pointed out
that .20 fall is considered heavy
as moderate precipitation is
from .11 to .30 inches.
Rainfall last December at this
time, showed an excess of .63
inches. The total deficiency last
year was .09.
Mora Predicted
Total amount of rainfall in
the first eight days of Decem
ber last year was 1.52 Inches.
For the same time this month
it was only .02.
Local weather forecast is for
occasional rain tonight and Sat
urday with little change in tem
perature. During the wind last
night there was slight change
between the high and low
temperature with thermometer
reading high, 59; low 56.
County Agent Robert G.
Fowler said the moisture, if con
tinued, would be of high value
for fall plowing, and some grain
seeding, delayed by lack of
moisture. It would also help fall
pastures.
Farmers reported the ground
has been too dry and hard for
deep plowing, for several weeks.

automobile from the Vatican to

The Light That Must Not Fail
OF OLD CIVILIZATION
Salt Lake City, Utah (U.R)
Charles E. Dibble of the Univer
sity of Utah has in his possession
relics he believes indicate an
archaic civilization flourished
near Mexico City between 200
B. C. and 400 A. D.
Dibble found the relics
specimens of clay and pottery
figures and jars while "kibit
izing" on construction of a
Mexican federal highway near
Mexico City. Dibble said when
he saw the specimens turned
over by workmen he asked for
and was granted permission to
search for other relics in the
dirt.
Dibble, assistant professor in
the university archeology de
partment, said the new road
passes over the site of a town
that once flourished on the
shores of an ancient lake that
was called Lake Texcoco.
Extreme Caution.
San Francisco. (U.R) When a
local concern received an order
from Milpitas, a town of 200

veloped that the 200 scales were
wanted for the use of pea pick
ers on which to weigh their
hampers.

lessons from a card club here

and perhaps that accounts for
the no-quarrel record," said Mrs.
Carl Litschert, hostess at the
club's most recent meeting. "The
eight married "couples in our
group started by playing pedro
many years ago. Then we
played 500 for a time. Now our
