Wilson Here Orville Wilson, former local resident, arrived here yesterday from Spokane. Wash., to attend the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. Kather ine Adams, tomorrow. He ex- pects to return Saturday morn ing. Sister Dies Capt. and Mrs. O. L. Overmyer of 610 South Holly street left here Tuesday night for Sykeston, N. D., upon receiving word of the critical illness of Mrs. Overmyer's sis ter, Mrs. Will Nelson. Mrs. Nelson died early Wednesday morning. Capt. and Mrs. Over myer were to stop in Walla l Walla, Wash., to pick up Mrs. Laurence Skow, also a sister of Mrs. Overmyer, and proceed to Sykeston to attend the fu neral. They were making the trip by motorcar. Miss Donna Nelson of Medford, daughter of Mrs. Nelson, left here Monday for Sykeston and arrived before her mother's death. Go North Mr. and Mrs. I ySimerl Jarvi and daughter Jo- ellen of McAndrews road left by motorcar last night for As toria where they were to spend Thanksgiving with Mr. Jarvi's mother. Mr. Jarvi, fire chief of the Rogue River national forest, will continue next Mon day to Wind River on the Co lumbia national forest, to at tend a meeting of fire assist ants. The conference on forest fire prevention and suppression will continue until December 7. Another representative of the Rogue River national forest at the conference will be John Sarginson, ranger in charge of the Lake O'Woods district whose office during the winter is in Klamath Falls. Society By Clara Mathes Home la Scene of Party For Couple Miss Dorothy Mathes of Talent was a recent hostess for a party and miscellaneous shower hon oring Miss Hazel Riggs and her fiance, Wayne Smith, of Med ford. Guests enjoying the pleasant affair were the Misses Dorothy and Marie Schuler, Lois and Nancy Firestone of Ashland, Lavelle Mason, Tharon Hill, Agnes Lacy, Cornelia Hilkey, Ann Riggs and Messrs. Dick Skeeters, Harvey Maxson, Ken ton Robbins of Ashland, Clyde Perdue, Earl Vetter, Leslie Ma- V son, George Gleim and Richard Myers of Phoenix. During the evening. Miss Firestone and Miss Schuler played several musical selec tions. Refreshments were served later and the bride-gleet re ceived and abundance of at tractive gifts. Hammetts Hosts To House Guests Arriving in Medford yester day to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Hammett at their home on Ea,t Main street were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Robertson and small son Stewart of Eugene and Mr. and Mrs. Allen White of Klam ath Falls. The Robertsons, well known in this city, plan to return to their home in Eugene tomorrow. Mrs. Robertson is Mr. Ham mett's daughter and Mrs. White is her aunt. She is the former Miss Billy Hammett. The Whites lived In Medford a number of years ago. Mr. Deuel Home For Holiday Stay F. Kramer Deuel arrived in Medford last evening to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with his mother Mrs. F. K. Deuel at her home on South Oakdale ave nue. Mr. Deuel, former Medford resident now living in Portland, was accompanied to this city by Cliff Lord of Seattle, also a for mer resident of Medford. The two expect to spend the week end here. Her condition was reported by hospital attendants as not being serious. Applicants are asked to report to the state examiner who will be in coun cil chambers on the top floor of city hall from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. To Eugene Mrs. Harold Ax land of 18 Groveland avenue left yesterday for Eugene to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Beers, over the Thanksgiving holiday. She will return Sun day, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Degerness of 1423 Euclid avenue, who plan to motor to Eugene to join her Sunday. Hits Tree An automobile driven by William Donathan of Clarkston, Wash., traveling north, struck a tree alongside the Pacific highway a mile and a quarter north of Medford early this morning, according to a report on file. Mrs. Florence Donathan, 22, wife of the driv er, sustained minor scratches and bruises. Mr. and Mrs. Don athan were en route from San Francisco to Seattle. After the accident they arranged to have their car towed to Medford and continued their journey by stage. Mr. Donathan reported that his car skidded on a curve and left the highway. Plane Passengers Arrivals by United Mainliner last mid night were O. V. Wilson, from Spokane, Wash., and -R. G. Henry, from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Parke E. Hodges of Can yonville left on the midnight plane for Los Angeles. A. A. Courtney arrived by Mainliner last night from San Francisco. Leaving by Mainliner yesterday afternoon were Mrs. W. B. Moore, to Seattle, Wash., and Miss D. Goss and J.' Bathrick, to Portland. The Mainliner due here at 4:52 this morning was held at Oakland, Cal., because of fog and did not arrive until 10:35. Clubs Mary Davis Boyle Home Is Scene of Musical Society Meet The Musical society of Med ford held its November meet ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Boyle, Monday even ing. Future recitals to be spon sored by the society were dis cussed and it was voted to in clude a musical quiz box as a feature of the business and so cial meetings. Membership committee reported the society now has an active and asso ciate list of 92 members. The social hour which followed the bualnesa meeting was Interspersed with an Informal musical program. Cyril Sanders presented, with his usual brilliance, two piano uumbera. Bird As Prophet, by Schumann, and Song Without Words, by Mendelssohn. A group of Interesting Indian songs by Lleurance were aung by Miss Marlon Luce accompanied by Mrs. RoyaJ B. Bebb. The songs were. Where Cedars Rise, whistling Mal lards and Ghost PiDes. Lois Herman Visits Here Miss Lois Herman, a student at Willamette university in Salem, is spending the Thanks giving holiday here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Herman, at their home on West Jackson 'street. Fuhrmani Have Dinner Guests Mr. and Mrs. Bud Fuhrman of the Fluhrer apartments, are hosts today for dinner to Mr. and Mrs. Vern Campbell. J. Conroy and Mrs. George Cod ding placed first with a score of 45V4 rating points. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Clark scored second with 41 points. and Mrs. Martha Morris and Mrs. Charles Gail were third with 31 points. It was announced at the ses sion by Mrs. A. F. W. Kresse. tournament director, that the sponsoring organization, Med ford Contract Bridge club, had discontinued from the the Pa cific Coast Bridge league and is definitely a local organiza tion. Similar affairs will be held each Tuesday evening at 7:30 o clock in the hotel, and all valley bridge enthusiasts are invited to participate. Medford Coed la Good Student Miss Barbara Hampson is an other Medford girl making good according to reports received here from the University of Ore gon in Eugene. Miss Hampson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Hampson, is enjoying her first year as an Oregon coed. She is a journalism major and is a member of the Emerald staff. The local miss Is also doing library work in conjunction : with the National Youth Admin-1 istration and has had two pro motions in the few months she has been on the campus. She is also turning out various writ ings in this work, her excellent grades being a contributing fac tor for the good position. While a student at Medford high school, Mis Hampson was High Times editor and on the Crater staff. According to uni versity reports, she is bound to make an outstanding mark in the field of writing. Miss Hampson spent the past four days here visiting her par ents but because of her work had to return to the University early instead of spending the Thanksgiving holiday here. Miss Gates Home For Holidays Home to join the college set here over the Thanksgiving hol idays is Miss Mary Anne Gates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Gates of 31 Crater Lake ave nue. Miss Gates was accompanied home by her mother who main tains an apartment in Salem where the local miss is a first year student at Willamette uni versity. Mrs. Gates plans to spend the winter in the north ern city and the two will return there Sunday. Mary Anne, a talented singer, is majoring in music at Wil lamette. Elliotts Visit In Yreka, Cal. Dr. and Mrs. B. R. Elliott are spending the Thanksgiving holi day with Mr. and Mrs. William Shepard at their home in Yreka, Cal. Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Shep ard are sisters. Bigalows Have Dinner Guests Dinner guests today at the F. E. Bigalow home on Dakota avenue will be Mrs. Bigalow's sister, hlrs. Anna Ruch of Ruch and the Bigalow's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bigalow. Mrs. Young In i San Francisco .
