VP) Friends of Vice-President Gar ner and Senator Wheeler (D Mont.) were reported authorita tively today to have urged them to make formal declarations of candidacy for the next demo cratic presidential nomination. Before leaving Washington last week-end for his Uvalde, Tex., home. Garner was said to have declined a "yes" or "no" answer to these suggestions. Some of Garner's associates were described as believing that he should make a general declara tion of his views in order to gain the early support of like-minded voters. Others, it was said, ad vised him his position on funda mental policies already was well known and that nothing would be gained from their public re iteration. Wheeler was understood to have decided to withhold com ment on the presidential race. Authoritative sources said he be lieved any effort to step into the 1940 situation would be politi cally ill-advised until after Presi dent Roosevelt has made known whether he would stand for a third term. Capital speculation on poten tial Democratic candidates was stirred anew by Secretary Wal laces reiteration of his belief Mr. Roosevelt should have an other term. J0HNM.ALLEN.81. June 15, 1936: Fans news papers report followers of late Captain Roehm conducting cam paign of terrorism with death warnings sent to Hitler; Berlin denies it. June 4. 1937: Helmuth Hirsch, 21-year old Jewish grandson of a naturalized American, exe cuted for attempt on life of Julius Streichler; nazis deny Hitler was his object. Oct. 7, 1938: Hitler struck in face and scratched by bunch of roses tossed during nis trium phal tour of Sudetenland; gen eral order issued against any bouquets along his route in fu ture. April 4, 1935: Spoke from be hind glass sheild at Wilhelms haven; nazis said it was for pro tection of his throat and not a bullet-proof device. John Marion Allen, aged 81, passed away at his ranch home on the Butte Falls highway to day at 6:10 a. m. A complete obituary will be published later. Perl Funeral Home in charge. Destroyers Bump.
