Virtually every resi dent of Georgia has a relative who defended Atlanta against the invad ing union army, and all believe they should see the moving pictures with out cost. Ranking second to the pass seekera is the huge group wanting to know when the premiere will be held, will Clark Gable be here, will Vivien Leigh be present, what stars are coming, and scores of other questions. The premiere Is scheduled to be held late In the fall, but exactly when hasn't been established. As for the pass hunters, It appears that they are out of luck for the time being. Nobody knows where the Annie Oakleys are coming from, and It appears that no one will be In formed until the premiere Is held. Theater owners are getting their share of calls, too. Members of his torical societies who declare their parents, grandparents .uncles, great uncles, cousins, second cousins and more distant relatives raised guns against the Yankees are bombarding managers of the theaters, film ex change officials and even the ushers. Scruggs, who had already complained to her husband that "you smoke once a day and that's all day," probably said 'I told you so" when she saw a tomato gathered from a plant Mr. Scruggs had set out. The fruit the plant bore was a small tomato in the shape of a pipe, with a perfectly defined bowl and a two-inch stem. News BOURBON THISKEY LARBE IRRIGATION CANAL FOR WEST TO BE READY S WASHINGTON (UP) The federal! government U making final plant to begin operating one of the largest Irrigation canals ever constructed the All-American canal built by the reclamation service to provide Irri gation for a million acres of land in the Imperial and Coarhella val leys of southern California. John C. Page, V. S. reclamation commissioner, recently advised Sec retary of Interior Harold L. Ickes that final work on the project would be completed this winter, and water already has been sent through the huge channel In making preliminary testa before actual operation . starts. The project cost approximately $38,500,000, and the government will be reimbursed over a 40-year period by the Imperial irrigation district. The main canal to the Imperial valley la 60 miles long, crossing a desert, and carries a small river of water. It la 332 feet wide at the water surface, and 31 feet deep. capable of carrying more than half the average flow of the Colorado river at Boulder dam. This main canal takes water from the Colorado below Yuma, AHe, The branch to the Coachella valley Is 130 miles long. The Imperial dam built to divert the river is a concret structure more than 3.400 teet long. A large part of the canal was concreted, to prevent washing. In place where the canal parses through sand dunes. no concrete was poured for the sides and bed, but special precautions are being takfn to prevent filling of the channel. The fine sand was dredged, away and coarser material substi tuted. The banks will be protected by vegetation, oil, or through other methods. The government plans to provide irrJgntlon at first only for 4 SO ,000 acres in the Imperial valley, and some 152,000 in the Coachella val ley. Cal. (UP) "Wanted a bear-proof garb age can." For many summers this has been the cry of campers, ranger and other resident of the Sequoia area as they sought deliverance from the con tinued bear-nuisance. For as many summer, the bruins have stolen their midnight snacks regularly by heaving over the large size garbage cans that dot the camps. For even more summers, the smaller cubs have watched with chagrin their larger brethren pick out the "caviar" and leave what is left for the des piped 3-year-olds, unable to turn over a can for themselves. In a determined effort to remedy the situation, the Parks company this summer distributed a good many small-size, patented screw-top cans flour and salt. Add tha egg and milk. Cook in a double boiler until the mixture becomes very thick and creamy. Cool. Add the extracts and spread on top of one of the baked cake layers. When "set" cover with the other layer. Spread with the Jelly and sprinkle with the confectioner's sugar.
