To Give Play "Spooky Tav ern," a three-act mystery farce. will be presented by the young people of the First Christian church in the Lincoln school gymnasium at 8 p. m. next Wed nesday. The production is being sponsored by the Lincoln school P.-T.A. The public is invited. To Take Vacation Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Bachelder, who re cently sold the Oakdalc grocery store to Alton M. Anderson, plan to leave soon for a month's vacation in the north before re turning to make their home at 626 Park avenue. They will travel by motor car. Snow Trace A trace of snow fell in Crater Lake national park last night,, rangers reported by short-wave radio this morn ing. Temperature at 8 a. m. was given as 25 degrees, the range In the past 24 hours being from a maximum of 50 to a mini- Vmum of 24. C. Me- Cuiston' and Frank Howell of Medford returned home Thurs day from a two-day fishing trip to the Chetco river. They brought back a 33-pound Royal Chinook salmon. Completes Visits Mrs. Emma Merriman returned yesterday to her home at 515 North Bartlett street after a month's absence during which she visited rela tives. She was a guest of her son, Lester Merriman, and his family In Chiloquin and of her niece, Mrs. M. F. Biden, and her family in Klamath Falls. Maruyama Pledges Yoshio Maruyama, son of Masuzo Maru yama of Medford, was pledged last week to Delta Psi Delta, Greek letter social fraternity at Linfield college in McMinnville. Maruyama, an outstanding ten nis player, chose the fraternity after a rush season that brought forward a two weeks' entertain ment schedule from the five college fraternities. Back From South Dr. and Mrs. H. P. Hargrave and Miss Gertrude Weeks of 38 North Orange street and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McGowan of 15 Mistle toe street returned by train this morning from San Francisco. During their three weeks' trip they visited in Berkeley and at tended the Golden Gate inter national exposition on Treasure island. To Attend Game G e o r g e Robertson, Russell D. Davis and Billy Hulen, sports editor of the Mail Tribune, left this noon by motorcar for Eugene where they will attend the Medford Eugene high school football game this evening. They plan to travel on to Portland tomorrow to view the U.S.C.-University of Oregon game Saturday afternoon. I . . Flying North A 12-p lace Lockheed Electra plane owned by the Idaho-Maryland Mines, Inc., and piloted by J. W. Par son arrived at Medford munici pal airport yesterday afternoon from Grass Valley, Cal., with Dr. Carl P. Jones, who was en route to Portland. Dr. Jones continued to Portland from here in a United Mainliner- and Pilot Parson took the Lockheed back to Grass Valley. Wood, former Medford resi dent now residing in Salem, has been a visitor here this week and plans to return north Sun day. She is the house guest of Mrs. Hattie Aldcn and has been greeted here by her many friends. She spent two days this week in Klamath Falls visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Wood. Have Baby Word was re ceived in Medford today of the birth of a girl last Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Troy Spencer of Los Angeles. Mrs. Spencer is the former Miss Banne Hunt, granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Salade and niece of Mrs. H. D. McCaskey of the Old Stage road. Mrs. Spencer has visited in the valley frequently and is well known here. The baby has been named Jeannette. Hold Fire Drills Pupils of the Central Point grade school were given fire drills this morn ing under the supervision of Medford Fire Chief Roy Elliott. Fireman Vern Woods and Mrs. Una B. Inch, rural school super visor. After a number of drills, the evacuation signal was given and the 240 pupils got out of the school In orderly fashion in 45 seconds. The children were alert in responding to the drills and did exceptionally well in the evacuation, Chief Elliott said. Plane Passengers R. Mcln tyre arrived from Portland by United Mainliner this forenoon and W. F. Barrett and Dr. A. J. Loeffler left on the same plane for Detroit via Los Ang eles. J. W. Phillips left on the early morning Mainliner for Portland, the plane being held here from 4:55 a. m. to 9:41 because of fog around Portland. Arrivals from Portland on the midnight Mainliner were Fred Gordan and T. E. May of 604 Newtown street, and his son, Wayne E. May, United Air Lines meteorologist at Oakland, Cal. T. V. Nolan left for San Fran cisco by Mainliner last night. C. H. Cutter and Dr. Carl P. Jones left by Mainliner for Port land yesterday afternoon. Legion Warns Medford post of the American Legion today counselled merchants against purchasing Armistice day win dow cards in the belief that sale of the cards is sponsored by the veterans' organization. The Med ford post distributes window cards to all merchants without charge and anyone attempting to collect in the name of the American Legion is operating under false pretenses, a notice from the post stated. Each year at this time merchants are ap proached by men pretending to be representatives of the Amer ican Legion selling Armistice day cards, the post notice stated. Commander H. J. Meiring should be notified of any at tempts to sell Armistice day dis play cards in the name of the American Legion, the announce ment said. His telephone num bers are 1264 and 956-L.
