Under the direction of John R. Knight, the personnel of this splen did organization la composed of mu sic teachers, students and lovers of orchestral mimic who wish the op portunity of playing In an ensemble and the acquaintance of the high est type of orchestral music. The personnel la composed of residents of a rants Pass. Phoenix, Talent, Rogue River, Brownsboro, Ashland and Medford. An outstanding feature of the con cert will be the performance of a recently composed concerto for plsno and orchestra, "Concerto In O. Mi nor" by Joseph Frederick Wagner, with the young and talented Roger Wolf of thl city acting as piano aololst. Roger, 18-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wolf of Medford, has given several programs at the South ern Oregon College of Education. Is present acting student body pianist of the Junior high school and at flclsl pianist for the Rotary club. Wagner, as a composer, ranks high among the younger Americans. He Is a graduate of New England con servatory of mualo and Boston Uni versity College of Music, with Bach music In composition. He Is founder and conductor of the Boston Civic symphony orchestra, a past faculty member of Rutgers university and at present Is Instructor in Instru mentation and conducting at the Boston university and assistant di rector of muslo In the Boston pub- 1 'hfirtta HI. works hava been published here and In Europe and performed by leading orchestras, singers and Instrumental artists. Mrs. Loeffler to Return by Plane Mrs. Grace Loeffler left this noon by plane for her winter home in Crystal River, Fla., af ter having visited her son, Dr. A. J. Loeffler, and his family at their home on the Jackson ville highway for three months. Enroute to Florida, Mrs. Loef fler will visit friends in Mon rovia, Cal., South Bend, Ind., and Detroit, Mich. In the lat ter city she will be the guest of six sons. . During her stay here, the vis itor has made many friends and has been entertained at several social affairs. This will mark Mrs. Loeffler's first trip by airplane. 1 Mrs. Thompson Is Lou) Gross Player In the regular weekly tour nament for. women dlvoteers of the Rogue Valley Golf club Mrs. Belle Thompson was low net jii the blind bogey affair held Wednesday. Mrs. Alctha Vawter placed econd and Mrs. F, G. Bunch was low gross. On Saturday morning at 9:00 o'clock a surprise tournament will be held for all women of the club. Those who were not able to enter into the Wednes day swing are especially invited to play. Mrs. Bunce To Fly To Portland Mrs. Harold Bunce plans to leave this evening by plane for Portland where she will spend the week-end visiting her niece, Mrs. Kenneth Lord, a former Medford resident. ; Medford Boys are ! Fraternity Pledges Two Medford boys were i pledged this week to Greek let ter social fraternities at Linfleld I college in McMinnville. Winston Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Campbell, of Medford, is now wearing the pledge button of Iota Omega Mu while Jack Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin V. Hill, be came affiliated with Phi Ep silon. The boys were pledged on Monday, official pledge day, that climaxed a two weeks rush season which offered a variety of food and entertainment to the prospective pledges of the five college fraternities. Many Anticipate Elks Dance Party A Hallowe'en motif in decor ations and attractive favors will be carried out tomorrow eve ning at the annual spooky day Elks dance in the Elks, temple. Whipple's orchestra will fur nish the music for Elks and their invited guests to dance. Ray Knips heads the commit tee in charge of what is antici pated to be one of the most enjoyable parties . of the Elks social season. Elta Deuel Tent Meets Tonight Elta Deuel Hubbs Tent, No. 11, will convene this evening in the armory. After routine order of business, birthdays of eleven members will be ob served. Members are asked to attend. Two in One Columbia, S. C, Oct. 27. (TP) Councilman M. M. Rice killed a bird and a rabbit with one shot. The bird flew up in front of an embankment. He fired, killing the bird. The same shot also got the rabbit, which was sitting on the embankment. When the 1900 auto chugged down the road, without top, without headlights, without windshield or fenders or bump ers, it cost the driver 30 cents a mile to own and operate. FEDERAL ENGINEER ARRIVES HERE FOR POSTOFFICE WORK James Murphy to Supervise Remodeling, Enlargement of Structure for U. S. James L. Murphy, construc tion engineer of the federal works agency, arrived here last night to supervise the extension and remodeling of the postof fice building which is to begin soon. He will be in charge of construction supervision for the government. Mr. Murphy said he had no definite knowledge as to when work will start but word re ceived a few days ago from the L. H. Hoffman company of Portland, contractor, that its superintendent, C. H. Post, would come to Medford on No vember 6 was taken to indicate that the construction would be gin then or shortly thereafter. When he was here recently Mr. Post said the work would be started November 1 provided structural steel needed on the Job would be procured. He ex plained that tardy steel delivery might delay worK a month but the latest word, it was thought, indicated that the delay might not be so great. Mr. Murpy stated, however, that because of the rush of orders, following the outbreak of the European war, steel companies were hav ing a difficult time in making deliveries. Mr. Murphy will remain here until the job has been com pleted. He estimated the work would probably take a year. pointing out that remodeling was often slower than new con struction. Mr. Murphy arrived by mo torcar with Mrs. Murphy and their four young children. The family will make it! home here during the period of construc tion.
