Lindsey of Lozier lane left by train last night for Portland where he was to enter the Portland Medical clinic for a general check-up. Mr. Lindsey will return in a few days. Minor Accident Georgia L. Webb of Kings highway and Kenneth Lyons of Route 2 drove cars colliding with minor dam age at West Jackson boulevard and Summit avenue Thursday afternoon, a report on file said today. Bridge Lessons American Le gion auxiliary of Ashland will sponsor a series of contract bridge lessons in the basement of the Ashland Elks building beginning November 6. The les sons will be conducted by Sam Gordon, the "kibitzer." On Inspection H. C. Obey, assistant supervisor of the Rogue River national forest, left last nighl to make an inspection of logging operations of the Chilo quin Lumber company near Che mult. Mr. Obye was expected to return tonight. . To Observe Day Roxy Ann Grange members are reminded to observe Sunday as church day. At 1:30 p. m. members are to meet in the Grange hall for a covered dish dinner and a social afternoon. A good attend ance is desired. Minister Hero The Rev. H. G. Gardner of Burlingame, Cal was expected to arrive here to day to conduct Sunday services at St. Mark's Episcopal church. The public, as well as the church members, is invited to hear the Hev. Mr. Gardner. Navy Exhibit The Navy day window exhibit at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. designed by the Rogue River Valley Mother's club, will re main until Monday afternoon Members having articles in the window are not to call for them until that time. Files Petition United A i r Lines has filed a petition with the civil aeronautics authority ior sanction to make passenger mail-express stops at Belling ham, Wash., Max C, Henne, company manager here, an nounced today. Mr. Henne said the company wants to include Bellingham in its west coast and national systems as soon as the city's new municipal airport is completed. At present United planes fly directly over Belling ham on trips between Seattle and Vancouver. Recovering Mr. and Mrs. Ver non R. Churchill of Portland confined in Community hospital with injuries they sustained when their automobile left the Pacific highway and struck large rock north of Gold Hill Jast Tuesday afternoon, were reported by hospital attendants today as "getting along just fine." Mr. Churchill suffered a broken left arm and head cuts. Mrs. Churchill's head was cut and she was bruised and shaken considerably. Neither was seri ously Injured. Hallowe'en Dance Crater Lake aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles, will hold a Hallowe'en dance in the lodge hall at 42 North Front street at 9 p. m. to morrow. Dynge's orchestra will provide the music. Hallowe'en favors will be distributed. Lodge members and their friends are invited. Planes Fly Over Low fog kept United Mainllners out of Medford from yesterday after noon until early this afternoon. After departure of the mid-afternoon northbound plane yester day, no Mainllners called here until the southbound forenoon plane, due at 11:26 a. m., arrived at 12:55 this afternoon. The other planes flew over Medford. Carder Here Dr. Dean S. Carder, of the U. S. coast geo detic survey, arrived in Medford last evening to visit his mother, Mrs. Cora E. Carder, his sister, Mrs. Bernice Kunzman, and other relatives. Dr. Carder's of fice is in San Francisco, but re cently he has been doing survey work at Boulder City, Colo., in connection with Boulder dam. He plans to remain here a week. I SAY MATH AND HEALTH COURSES INADEQUATE Salem, Oct. 27. (Ph More than 200 Oregon high school principals attending a conven tion here today agreed that high school courses in mathematics and health are inadequate. A committee recommended that general mathematics be re quired of all sophomores, and that geometry and algebra, if taken, be studied as near as possible to the time of college entrance. It said solid geometry and trigonometry should not be taught in high schools, and that more emphasis should be placed on business arithmetic. Questionnaires answered by 113 principals showed that 70 believe students do poorly In college entrance mathematics examinations because they do not use algebra and geometry enough to remember what they learned in high school, while 35 said the cause was poor high school instruction. The principals approved a committee report that the com mon practice of teaching health only one day a week was un satisfactory and that there is unnecessary duplication in health courses. 1 Catalan is the language spoken by residents of Andorra in the mountains between France and Spain.
