Mr. and Hrs. Harvey Twyman and daughter, Mrs. Harry Flour noy, attended the fair at San Francisco last week and also vis ited relatives In Watsonville and Gilroy, returning Thursday. Here they were joined by Mrs. Flournoy's husband. Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Flournoy returned to their home at Likely, Calif., and Mr. Twyman returned to Alturas. Mrs. Jensen, her sister, Mrs. Murphy and daughter of Bend, Ore., were here last week dur ing the serious illness and death of Ralph Thomas. They returned to their homes Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thomas, of that city, also were at the E. W. Thomas home the past week. Al Puhl and Rafael Benson went to Lakcview and vicinity last Tuesday for a deer hunt. So far they haven t returned. Friendly Neighbors Club will meet with Mrs. Paul Gerbcr on Pitt View Ave., Thursday for a 1:30 luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Stagg re turned Sunday from the San Francisco Exposition. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ghclardi left Saturday for San Francisco to visit relatives and the fair. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Newton have purchased the house next to the Howard Grocery from Roy Helcnbrook. Mr. and Mrs. Newton have resided there the past 7 years. Mr. Brixon has bought tne Howard Grocery from E. K. Brucgger and will take posses, sion Nov. 1. Stanley of Topeka, Kas., have leased the Pickett auto camp from Mr. and Mrs. Hollis, who are leaving to make their home at Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. G. Maasdam of Medford visited. Sunday with Mrs. Pauline Wahl. Mrs. Wahl, who has not been well for some time, Is moving to Medford this week so she will be near her daughter, Mrs. Maasdam. Bill Johnson is working for the Doles on their mining prop erty at Rogue River. Frost and Mrs. Ruby Whitmore, who attended the District Gar den Club meeting in Grants Pass, Oct. 18. gave an interesting report. They told of Mrs. Heff ner, department chairman of flower shew committees, talking on flower arrangements, and her outline of the regional conven tion to be held in Portland June 3-4-5, the first day of which will be known as Oregon Day and will take the place of the regu lar Garden Club convention for 1940. All clubs belonging to the federation will furnish favors to represent their locality, and the Gold Hill Club is expected to furnish 350 of these favors, to be used for a luncheon. Mrs. Harry Smith, of Kerby, second vice president of the federation, also gave an interesting talk at the Grants Pass meeting. Gold Hill Odd Fellow Lodge held their regular meeting, Oct. 24, when they conferred tha first degree on Harry Newnham. Junior Garden club commit tee made a trip to Mrs. Savage's bulb gardens, a few miles north of Gold Hill, and secured daf fodil bulbs which will be distri buted among the Junior mem bers soon for fall planting. Girl Scouts and their leaders, Mrs. Paul Holderncss and Miss Illene Inlow met in the Grange hall, Oct. 23. Plans were made to attend the "Girl Scout Own" to be held in Medford, at the Meth odist Church, South, Sunday, Oct. 29 from 3 to 4 p.m. The meeting will feature Scout songs, Tenderfoot Investment, and all scouts In uniforms will take part in the candle services. Girl scouts from all parts of the county are expected to attend, and all friends and parents are invited and urged to attend. The local Girl Scouts are making arrangements to secure a win dow in some store on Main street of Gold Hill, to demon strate ways and means of earn ing badges. Among improvements under way at Gold Hill Auto Park Is construction of a modem cabin, to be ready for use soon. Cash prizes to the amount of several hundred dollars, were paid out Oct. 24, at the Gold Hill News Office, for the pre mium list of the Northwest Jack son County Fair. Among lucky hunters this week were Doug Cameron, Seth Coy and Logan Gardner who brought In a large buck. Bud Snyder came In Sunday with a salmon weighing 37 and one-half lbs., dressed. The catch was made at Rainy Falls. He also reports a large run of Royal Chinook salmon. Al Knudsen of Calore, Ore gon, is spending a few days fishing on the Rogue, with Bud Snyder.
