Burke of Sacramento, Cal., traveling com mercial agent for the Railway Express Agency, arrived in Med ford this morning by train to transact business for several days. Mr. Burke is a frequent business visitor in this city. Portland Guests Mrs. Clyde Leon Keller and her son, Clyde Keller, Jr., of Portland are house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hunt, 418 Arcadia Court. Mr. Keller and his father are well known Portland artists. Flying North Lieut. F. M. He was en route from Sacramento air de pot, his home station, to Pearson field, Vancouver, Wash. On Business Visit Johft M. Walker of Eugene, new assistant supervisor of the state liquor control commission for the southern district, transacted rou tine business here today. It was his first official visit here since becoming assistant supervisor. He Is to make monthly trips through his territory. Interesting Cancellation The Mail Tribune today received a stamp-cancelled envelope from Marial, Ore., called America's "last frontier." The cover trav eled 16 miles by pack mule through the rugged mountains to Illahee, nine miles by auto to Agness, 32 miles by motorboat down the treacherous Rogue river to Gold Beach, 152 miles by auto stage via Crescent City to Grants Pass and 32 miles by railroad to Medford. Special Fares Southern Pa cific company today announced special round-trip fares and ac commodations for a party of 15 passengers or more for Oregon Oregon State football game in Eugene on Armistice day, No vember 11. Sleepers will be et out at Eugene from the train leaving southern Oregon the pre vious night. The sleepers will be available also for the return trip. Complete Information may be obtained at any Southern Pacific station. Plane Passengers Mrs. J. Severtson arrived by United Mainliner fmm V nAk tk;. forenoon. D. S. McCutcheon ar rived from the south early this morning and Herman Lammle left on the same plane for Cal gary, Canada. Reid Robinson left by Mainliner last midnight for Denver via San Francisco. Elizabeth Barron arrived from the south last night and Paul Seldenheimer left on the same plane for Portland. Mrs. S. Schlosser arrived by Mainliner from the north last evening and D. S. PERSONAL Robertsons Home Mr. and Mrs. George Robertson of the Hotel Medford returned last evening from Carlton where they visited Mr. Robertson's rel atives for three days. They made the trip by motorcar. Hunting Stamps Hunters were reminded today that they may procure migratory bird stamps at the central postoffice up to noon tomorrow and at the sub-station up to 9 p. m. The sub-station is situated in the Central market, 129 North Central avenue. CCC Enlistments Six Jack son county boys were enrolled at the regular quarterly period for CCC duty yesterday at Med ford fairgrounds. In the group were Bill D. Collins. Robert H. Duke. Glen E. Jackson, Harry A. Miller, Donald E. Snyder and Ernest G. VanRheen. They will all be established at CCC camp South Umpqua Falls. To Have Party Loyal Work ers class of the First Christian church will hold a covered dish dinner this evening at 6:45 in the church dining room. All members are asked to attend to formulate plans for the church activities for the year. Those planning on attending are to bring a choice of the following dishes: meat, hot vegetable, sal ad, pie or rolls. A social hour will be enjoyed during the even ing. Travel East Four CCC en rollees In various camps within the Medford CCC district left last evening for Fort Dix, N. J., where they will be discharged from the CCC and enroll in the U. S. maritime service for a year's training in seamanship under the American merchant marine. The boys were recom mended by company command ers and final selection was made by the district commander. They were Norman Abrams, Ray J. Greenwell, Percy L. Loper and William C. Salter. Dam Chief to Capital. Portland, Oct. 20. (AP) Dr Paul Raver, Bonneville admin istrator, was en route today to Washington, D. C, to attend a meeting of the national power policy committee. Oct on f API Orlando Mize, 48, arrested in Watsonville, October 9, for ques tioning in the killing of an Idaho service station operator, was free today after a ballistics test which Sheriff William J. (AP The federal debt has jumped to a record high of $40,963,392,881, as the treasury resumed borrow ing to pay for its deficit. The debt jumped $58,000,000 in one day principally because of the treasury's sale of $150, 000,000 worth of 91-day discount bills this week when only $100, 000,000 worth of similar obliga tions came due and needed re placement. Secretary Morgenthau an nounced the borrowing was in tended to replenish the treas ury's cash working balance, now $1,265,000,000, and keep it at a size which would permit the treasury to avoid financing in times when war news might make financing difficult. The debt, which includes only the direct obligations of the treasury, now is $523,860,470 higher than it was when the fiscal year began July 1 and about $2,500,000,000 higher than it was a year ago. Seek Food Stamps. Portland, Oct. 20. (AP) Multnomah county's board of commissioners asked the state welfare committee yesterday to begin using the federal food stamp system in Portland. Frank L. Shull, board chairman, said the system helped Increase con sumption of surplus products by providing a more direct means of distribution. Gram to Conference Salem, Oct. 20.
