Restrictions Off Fire season re strictions were lifted today on the Rogue River national forest. It is therefore no longer necessary to pro cure campflre permits or to comply with the other regulations in force during the fire season. Hunters, however, were warned to be careful of their campflres and not to leave them until they were completely out as the law against causing a fire Is permanet and always In affect. Hence, It was emphasised, if a camp fire causes a forest blare the hunter or hunters responsible for the camp- fire are subject to arrest and prose cution. Forest Chief Here Lyle F. Watts of Portland. TJ. S. regional forester of the Pacific northwest region, ar rived this morning by motorcar from Grants Pass to spend three days on the Rogue River national forest. He conferred this morning with Karl L. Janouch, supervisor, and other ex ecutives of the Rogue forest. It was Mr. Watts' first visit here since he became regional forester last spring. Later In the day Mr. Watts left with Mr. Janouch for Lake of the Woods. From there the two men were to continue to Klamath Falls where they planned to spend tonight. Tomorrow they will spend some time at the site of the Chlloquln Lumber company operations In the Union Creek district. They expected to re turn to Medford tomorrow night. PEAR, APPLE GROWS TO RECEIVE HE JUD SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 5. (AP) Additional federal aid appeared to day for pear and apple growers whose European markets were ruined by war. Officials of the Federal Surplus itommoames corporation announced authorization to buy the surplus fruits, supplementing a federal mar keting agreement program for Pa- cuic coast pears. Usually about 45 percent of the pear crop Is exported, and loss nf Euroean markets means an extra 1,300,000 boxes to glut the domestic markets. It was pointed out. Officials said the pears to be ac cepted, which must meet U. 8. com bination grade standards, would in clude DAnJou, Bosc, Winter Nells, Buerre Hardy, Cornice, Beurre Easter and Buerre Clalrgeau. (AP) The news- paper Frankfurter Zeltung reported today that the crew of the German liner Bremen more than 900 men returned to Bremerhaven last Friday after docking the ship In a neutral port. The newspaper did not Identify the neutral port but said the Bremen'B company along with the crew .of the steamship Iller reached Bremerhaven 1 on the steamship Sierra Cordoba, The Iller and Sierra Cordoba are both German vessels. The homecoming seamen were given a cheering reception and the Bremen's captain, Adolf Aherns, was promoted to commodore by order of Adolf Hitler. BANDTTLEADER IS KILLED BY OFFICER TUL8A. Okla Oct. 8. (AP) A Tulsa policeman shot to death on a downtown street corner today a man suspected of being the ring-leader of the kidnaping robbers who looted a Pic her, Okla., bank under threat of blowing it up with nltro-glycerln. The Plcher bank was robbed yes terday of $1,195 by three desperadoes who previously had abducted a sales man and held him prisoner more than 40 hours In order to make use of his motor car. Shortly before the downtown slay ing, federal officers arrested two part Cherokee Indian boys at their home near Claremore and charged them with robbing the Plcher bank. Police said the man had registered at a hotel under the name of A. L. Rice. A search of his room revealed a quantity of dynamite caps and fuse. A package he had left at the hotel desk contained $450 in small bills. freighter Texmar told a story today of having seen an unidentified sub marine 360 miles south of here. Capt. W. F. Gayle said the sub was sighted, heading southward without lights, at 8 p. m. last Monday 15 miles south of San Benito Island. He recounted how, u he watched, the craft's running lights flashed on, After It passed the freighter, the sub marine's lights were extinguished and it disappeared Into the darkness.
