Frank Van Dyka, city attorn?, and C. P. Talent, chief of police, report ed to the council, advising such de lay in action. The report stated a "Model Bicycle Law" is being prepar ed and will be introduced in the state legislature which convenes Jan uary 8th. with good reason to be lieve this law will be passed. Secondly, the report stated, the city ordinances should be copied after the state law. with additional re quirements covering local conditions. Thirdly, a bike licensing ordinances doea not prevent accident or atolen hikes, the report stating that in Med ford, for instance, there is a much greater number of bike acclcfenti and thefts and holding that no emergency here exists for quick action. THOUGHTFUL GIRL E MISSOULA. Mont., Dec. 8. (UP) A six-year-old girl who didn't think a fire in her home today was worth waking her father was credited with saving the Uvea of her family. She was Mary Lou McCal lister, who awoke today to find her younger brother's bed afire. She got up and poured water on the mattress until flames were quenched. Awakened by the noise, her par ents found her outside, trying to extinguish blazing bedding she had dragged there. "I didn't think it was worth wak ing daddy up for," Mary Lou said. "Daddy" is Lieut. The informant said the duke would arrive the latter part of February from his two years' stay on the con tinent and probably would remain about two weeks. The sole purpose of his visit. It was said. Is to see his mother. Queen Mary, and he has no plans at pres ent to take up residence In England. Pending any contrary arrange ments, it was Indicated that the Duchess of Windsor would not ac comoany her husband when he calls on his mother, and It was believed that- she would not even meet the queen mother. Sada: Virginia Gardner, a news paper reporter; and Nate Aleekovskr, Herald and Examiner eoyreader. About 100 persons were on the picket line on Wacker Drive when truck drivers pulled up to load papers. The melee started when police began opening the Hue of pickets to let the drivers through. The guild Issued a statement say ing the truck drivers "attempted to crash the picket line wielding rub ber hoses." Police Lieut. William McCarthy said his men gave tho pickets "every chance in the world to picket peace fully." and added hereafter no picket ing would be permitted on the Wack er Drive side of the building. FATAL ACCIDENT AT QUEEN'S RITES OSLO. Dec. 8 OF) One person was killed and seven were Injured today when the roof of a small building collapsed during the funeral of Queen Maud. The building, across the street from Our Ssvlor's church, hsd been used as a vsntage point to watch the funeral cortege for Norway's English born queen. The crash of the first of 4a salute guns from the walls of the ancient fortress of Akerahus signalled two minutes of silence throughout the nation while Norway's aoverelgn walk to the fortress behind the hearse carrying the body of the queen. The queen, who was a sister of King arorge V of England, died In London November 20. Her body will lie In state In the fortress and later be placed In a mausoleum to be built within Its walls. Severely plain funeral services In Our Savior's church preceded the procession to Akershus. 4 PHILIPPINE AREA MANILA, Dec. 8. (AP) A terrific typhoon swept over several provinces southeast of Manila today, leaving thousands homeless, causing floods over a wide ares and disrupting communications. Meager report list ed 79 dead. The storm passed southward of Manila, hit northern Mtndtro Island and swept Into th China sea. All sectors reported heavy damage to private and public properties and crops. A typhoon signal Indicating the center of the storm waa over the region was hoisted In Soraugon. Al bay. and Camarlnea Sur provinces. Masbaie. Romblon. Marinduque, Ley. te, Samar and South Tayabaa pro vinces also were hit hard. In his newest bid for free- ' dom, had contended the federal court, In which he was tried and sentenced, did not have Jurisdiction, I as the kidnaped youth was not taken i across state lines. William Mahan and Waley's wife. Margaret, also were convicted In the kidnaping and were sent to federal prisons. MOTORIST HALTS NEW HAVEN, Conn., Dec. 8 ff Douglas Brill of this city made his bid today for the ytle of New Haven's ace runaway trolley stopper. Brill, driving homeward at 3 am. saw a trolley coining toward him down a slight grade with no passen gers aboard and no motorman at the controls.
