Tree Budding A sycamore tree
on the south side of the Jackson
county courthouse Is now budding
profusely, though the dead leaves of
autumn are still clinging to some of
Ite branches. The unseasonal budding
was attributed by horticulturists to
warm air issuing from the windows
of the county clerk's office near
which the tree stands. The trco Is
also In a sheltered spot and re
ceives the warming rays of the sun
whenever It shines.

Wierd Story Shown
On Rialto's Screen
The weirdest combination that has
ever been put on a Medford screen
comes to the Rlslto theater for a
three-day run, starting tomorrow. It
Is "Dracula" and "Frankenstein"
the two most blood-curdling motion
pictures ever conceived by man
billed together In the horror show
of the century. In fact, the Riallo
theater dares their patron to see
them both together.
A ship of death soils Into Whitby
Harbor. Literally freigiVed witir hor
rors, the cargo vessel "Maude" lurches
up to the dock, after an escape
from a terrific storm at sea. The
ship haa been abandoned by Its
crew. The mate, shrieking with ter
ror, has thrown himself Into the
surging waters of the Atlantic. The
captain( dead, and with a look of
horror on his face, slumps against
the wheel, his hands lashed to Its
spokes. A brooding silence hangs
over the vessel a vampire is on
board living by night In a casket
of earth from his native land. Such
ta the beginning of "Dracula," the
first thrllltr on the bill, which stars
Bela Lugosl.
Arch man-made fiends, ltfc-breath-Ing
electrical machines, dangling
bodies, human skeletons, ghouls, and
wicked hunchbacks all have their
sinister places In the shivery, eerie
and ghostly "dndrfy" of all horror
films, "Frankenstein," which plays
as thriller number two bn the chill
program. Boris Karloff, recognized
as the greatest master of makeup on
the screen today, plays the role of
the monster, conceived from the
love-mad brain of the scientist, Dr.
Frankenstein.
