today that BO feet of one-half Inch
rope were stolen from his car parked

buck-saw was stolen from the garage
of Joe Smith. 301 Haven street, last
night, the owner told police.

funeral of Thomas Peacock as a rep

Peacock, who died Monday In a San
Francisco hospital, had been Interest
ed In plans for a railroad from Grants
Pass to the coast. Much of his work
had a bearing on the development of

rain fell. The precipitation turned to

park toads were open but chains were
necessary for safe driving, the rangers

AT ELKS SESSION
Six men will be Initiated Into the
Medford Elks lodge tomorrow night,
the ritual to carry out the "Ameri
canism" theme In line with a nation
wide Elks club observance of "Ameri
canism Night." according to Ernest
Scott, secretary. Regular officers of
the local lodge will be In charge of
the ceremony.
There will be a special program of
entertainment and a feed and beer
following ,the Initiation, the secre
tary stated.
Although the local lodge will not
officially observe "Americanism
Night" Mr. Scott explained, the Ini
tiation ritual will follow closely that
theme.

The day before Thanksgiving was
rather an exciting one for the Carl
von der Hellen family. In the after
noon, during a high wind, the roof
of their house caught fire. The fire
was extinguished without serious
damage but the same night the
wind Increased to gate proportions
and blew the roof off their kitchen.
They were without a fire in the
house until noon the following day
when, with the aid of Cecil Culbert-
son, Floyd Harper and Walter Geh
rig, tne roof and chimneys were
placed.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gentner and
daughters and Mrs. Laura Pierce of
Medford called at the C. R. Culbert
son home last Thursday.
Maurice Davles left recently for
Portland, where he will undergo an
operation.
Mrs. John Rader of Eagle Point
enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with
her daughter. Mrs. Harvey Stanley,
Mrs. Vern Anderson, who hsa been
staying In Ashland the past six
weeks, will return home Tuesday
with her new daughter, Arlene.
