Y J Society By Clara (continued from page four) Mrs. Carpenter Talks At Zonta Luncheon The luncheon meeting of the Med ford Zonta club was held at the Hotel Med ford last week. Zonta , songs and code opened the meeting In the usual manner. At the brief business session It was decided to hold a rummage sale Friday and Saturday with Mrs. Blanche FTlftbte as chairman. The proceeds will be used for the Junior Symphony or chestra, a Zonta project of much worth. Miss Josephine Klrtley, program chairman, introduced Mrs. Leonard Carpenter, who as guest speaker, presented a most Interesting and Instructive talk on her recent travels through central Europe. Her address was especially interesting to Zonta members because the countries she visited are those which the organi sation Is making a study of. Many Art Courses Offered By School The Southern Oregon Art school now offers the following classes: Basketry, plaque painting,, watercolor painting, pastel, commercial art, drawing, art history and art appre ciation. American Legion Auxiliary By Jlal.lt Dally Half million American women will enroll In the American Legion Auxili ary for 1939 Edna Overmeyer, mem bership chairman of the Medford unit, predicted as the unit continued enrollment for the new year. The continuous growth of the auxiliary since It was organized In 1931, was Interrupted only In 1932 and 1933, the worse of the depression years, Mrs. Orermeyer explained. Since 1933 more than 100,000 members have been gained and a record enrollment of 465,000 was reached In 1938. Ex pansion at the same rate win give the auxiliary approximately SOO.OOO members by the end of 1939. The auxiliary of the American Le gion Is the largest women's patriotic organization In the world and has not yet reached the limits of Its possible growth. The opportunities for worth while service which the auxiliary offers are each year attracting more and more of the eligible women Into Its ranks stated Lutecla Kuntz, presi dent of the Medford unit. The aux iliary Is a service organization. Its purpose being to support the wori of the legion. Its activities cover the whole field of civic and patriotic ser vice, and In them every woman from a veteran's family can find something to absorb her attention and Interest. Helen Ebbenger, radio chairman, announces there will be an Interest ing program over KMED at 6:30 next Tuesday evening. Sewing Meeting There will be a meeting of the sewing club next Wednesday evinlng at the armory, Ruth Freed, welfare chairman, stated. Mrs. Freed hopes all members will be present, rhere are layettes to finish and quilt blocks to make. Thanksgiving Donations Mrs. Freed also stated she would appreciate every member bringing some donation for the Thanksgiving baskets for the veterans' needy fam ilies. Williams presented the topic "Nasi Germany," giving an Interesting explanation of conditions existing in Germany at the present time. The meeting closed after a gen cral discussion of the subject.
