Miss Thompson maintained the real party guilty of this assassination was not this poor friendless, persecuted Jewish boy, but the bloodthirsty, group of perverted sadists at Berlin, who are doing everything in their power to revive the racial hatreds and persecutions of Middle Ages and literally drive millions of defenseless and unoffending human beings into exile or death. She maintained the lad had suffered enough already, in the realization that his crime instead of aiding his cause, had resulted in the shedding of more blood, and more suffering on the part of his racial brethren, without having his head chopped off by the guillotine, in the bargain. But, the cause of justice and tolerance and human decency, which Miss Thompson so ably and eloquently espouses, will be poorly served, we fear if an effort should be made to turn this criminal trial into a political one, and by arousing world opinion and exerting political pressure, interfere with the regular procedure of. the French courts. Such action would be resented by France, probably by world opinion, and quite properly so. Then stir rap Idly and continuously, or beat with egg beater or with heavy spoon until the mixture becomes uniformly soft and creamy. If you want to get an Idea as to what that means, set a dollar on a slowly moving object (suoh, for ex ample, u the back of a turtle), then retire to a distance of 30 miles and try to sight a rifle accurately, with your naked eye, at the dollar. That would be roughly equivalent to the Job of aiming the new Mount Palomar telescope at one of these distant stars. ANOTHER Interesting thought: Some of the stars to be studied by this new telescope, as you have Just read, are a billion light years distant frcm the earth. That means that the ray of light that falls upon the lens of the telescope left the star a BILLION YEARS AGO, and It has taken It ever since, traveling at the rate of 186,000 mllea per second, to reach our earth. When that ray of light left the star,, this earth was possibly a spin ning, white-hot mass. Certainly there was as yet no life upon It. The whole record of our earth has been written while a ray of light was traveling from a distent star to us. THINK of Boulder Dam and Grand Coulee (works of man) as tremendous achievements. Senator Joe Guffey will probably manage to mske himself supreme once more. Guffey has always played ball with Parley. So has Mayor Hague, whose control of the Jersey delegation to the Democratic national convention has not been Jeonardlzed bv the re. cent failure of his senatorial candi date and deserved remidlatlon of his methods.
