Oat Dotva't rUla. By Alexander Kahn United Press Staff Correspondent HOLLYWOOD (UP) Actors u rul are a happy-go-lucky lot to whom time means little and prompt ness leas. But one actor at least has won the title of "conscientious" be cause of his consideration and punc tuality. He to suave Adolpho Menjou, Holly wood's best-dressed actor. Menjou Is big enough and Important enough 50 tbat he would not have to pay at tention to the production crew of pictures In which he appears. He could, If h desired, be very bossy. Some actors are very thoroughly dis liked by the technical workers, but not Menjou. Menjou dismisses his conduct as ft selfish" desire to get along with people. After all, these technical workers can determine In no small way which direction you are headed," he said. ! "An actor who doesn't cooperate with them has two strikes called. They are all swell guys anyway, but they certainly can make an actor look bad when they want to." But, although Menjou explains that It's Just plain business acumen, his friends say he couldn't be any other way If he tried he's a regular fellow. Although Is a stickler for punctu ality, he doesn't argue that the lack of It In others Is necessarily a fault. He has always made It a point to be 10 minutes ahead, of Any appoint ment "Just In case.' Currently ap pearing in 30th Century-Ptox's "Thanka For Everything," he often shows up with the carpenters and eleotrlclans and sits around chatting with them until the director needs him to start work. He also Is a builder of goodwill on the set. Every morning at & sharp, he orders doughnuts and coffee for the company, Just In case some of them missed their breakfast. He steps over and has a cup of coffe with "the boys" If he is not busy re hearsing a scene. The Menjou good fellowship does not stop with him. Mrs. Menjou (Veree Teasdale) Is hailed aa Just as friendly as the suave Adolphe.
