COMMUNITY CUES!
Reports on thta year's campaign
were reviewed by the board of direc
tors of the Community Chest of
Medford. Inc., at a meeting In the
First National bank last night. M.
N. Hogan, chest president, presided.
The directors discussed delinquen
cies In last year's campaign, It being
reported that none of the Commun
ity Chest participating agencies had
received their final monthly allot
ment because of the non-payment of
last Installments on 1937-38 pledges.
The meeting expressed the hope that
the delinquencies would be paid
without further delay so that It
would not be necessary to. curtail
the work of the agencies.
Larry Schade, chairman, Eugene
Thorndlke and Mrs. Leonard Carpen
ter were appointed a nominating
committee to report a slate of new
officers at the regular November
meeting.

Schade, representing the Boy Scouts,

HANKOW. Oct. 27. ( AP) A score
of Chinese, some In army uniforms
and others In civilian garb, were
executed by the" Japanese military
today within sight of the United
States YangtM patrol flagship Luuon.
The Luzon was lying In the Yang-
tie river Just off Hankow, of which
he unopposed occupation by the
Japanese army was comploted yes
terday.
Today the Japanese began a round
up of Chloese In uniform and others
believed to be soldiers despite their
civilian dress and by nightfall several
scores of such persons had been shot.
The Japanese a'.so took steps to
compel some 100.000 Chinese who
had taken refuge In the French con
cession and former foreign conces
sions to return to their homes In
the native city of Hankow.

first time In a quarter of a century.
Oregon sportsmen will be permitted
to shoot antelope for five days be
ginning Friday.
The season will be restricted to
Lake, Harney and Malheur counties.
In addition to the regular hunting
licenses, resident hunters must pay
special $5 fee and non-resident
hunters 925.
Hunters wilt be required to check
In and out of the areas designated
by the state game commission. No
hunting will be permitted from high
ways, automobiles or horseback. Tele
scope sights may be used.

ter the body of Joyce Arrlngton was
found near her mountain home last

"The boy said It was accidental,"
Sheriff Fisher said, "but the girl's
mother, Mrs. Kelse Arrlngton, felt It
wasn't an accident.
