ecutives of this region decided to
take advantage of his presence here
to procure his advice. Mr. Stevenson
arrived from Portland by train this

Driver Tests Examination of ap

drive automobiles will be held here
this week on Wednesday and Thurs
day, it was announced today by
Ward McReynolds. state examiner In
charge of the southern Oregon dls
trict. Examiners will be In council
chambers on the top floor of city
hall from 8 to 6 both days and ap
plicants are asked to report between
those hours. The midweek examina
tions will be held to relieve the con
gestion on Saturday, customary day
for the examinations tn Medford. To
pass the examinations, applicants
must be familiar with the state man
ual on traffic rules and regulations,

coastline near here. Six companions

BIG POWDER PUNT
COLUMBUS, Kane.. Oct. 34. (API
The Herculea Powder company plant
at Turck. north of here, virtually waa
wiped out thla afternoon In a series
of explosions that leveled nine of tne
buildings there.
All employes escaped uninjured
The fire started from a prairie fire
raging out of control. Highways were
blocked for miles around the plant.
The main mill waa first to go, with
eight other buildings following In al'
most regular sslute order.
The explosions were felt for more
than half a mile and dense clouds of
smoke and flame ahot hundreda of
feet Into the air.
None of the big magazines had
exploded although the fire waa within
300 yards of the largest.
