FUNNIEST FILM TO DATE PROMISED IN Absent from the screen for more than a year, the Marx Brothers make an auspicious return In what is said to be their funniest to date, "Room Service," opening a three day run to day at the Craterian theatre. A Movie quiz picture, "Room Serv ice" was adapted from the smaMi comedy that had Broadway In an up roar for more thn sixty one weeks, and provides the three zanies with a ready-made story embodying the dizzy situations and rollicking com plications which always fit their pe culiar comedy style. And. as usual, the Marxes add some of their own Ideas to the story. In "Room Service," a shoestring producer wants to stage a fostlight epic without spending a penny. (Groucho, of course). He and his cast of twenty-two put up at a splendid hotel and are $1,200 In arrears. He lures - an "angel" with $15,000 Into tils trap to finance the hazardous venture. Employing ingenious meth ods, he and his two loyal assistants, (Harpo and Chico). struggle desper ately because "the show must go on" and the result Is a mirth-packed entertainment. Story with the Marx Bros, doesn't mean a thing. It's what they do to the story that counts. The hilarious Structure of the plot Is built up by . series of suspense-packed high lights which keep the laughter roll ing to the very end. The unexpected arrival of the author In search of his advance royalties; the backer who la tricked into financing the show: he ever became the producer's brother-in-law: the hotel supervisor who finances the play without knowing it: the hectic ruses by which the madcap Marxes restrain all interfer ence until the curtain goes up It's one steady stream of fun-making. In the supporting cast are Ann Miller and Lucille Ball, two of Hol lywood's most promising starlets; and Frank Albertson. The other principal roles ere filled by the players who created the parts for the stage play who have certainly become profi cient enough to know exactly how to time each comedy sequence to get the greatest laugh. 4 TAnne Shirley, Ruby Keeler In Dramatic Picture at Rialto The beloved story of a fatherless New England family which has en thralled American readers for the past twenty-five years, selling more than 750,000 copies of the book, be- comes a notable screen event with the local showing today and tomor row only at the Rialto theatre of 'Mother Carey's Chickens." adapted from the famous Kate Douglas Wig gin epic.
