Hunter's Fire A grass fire at tributed to a hunter burned over 12 acres yesterday afternoon between the Dead Indian road and the Green spring highway, the state district warden's office reported today. The blaze was quickly put out after aun down. Recuperating Richard Woodcock of 324 King street was reported as recovering satisfactorily today In Community hospital where he under went an operation for the removal of his appendix Saturday. He was en route from Oak land to Seattle, Wash., on a practice flight. Car Srolrn Southern Oregon authorities were on the lookout to day for a 1938 Chevrolet coupe be longing to Dr. Charles A. Haines of Ashland. The car was stolen some time Sunday night and not discov ered mifsing until Monday morning. License number of the machine was reported as Oregon 314-419. Meeting Pef erred Change In time of the annual meeting "of Medford chapter of the National Aeronautic association was announced today by Thomas A. Culbertson, Jr., president. The meeting Is now scheduled for Wednesday evening, October 36, at B o'clock at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. It had or iginally been set for thl Friday evening. Mndy Road Work T. A. Rice, division of engineering at the U. 8. regional forester's office In Portland, arrived here today to examine the work don on the Dead Indian road at Lake of the Woods to plan for continued work this fall. He waa accompanied to Lake of the Woods by H. C. Obye, assistant supervisor of the Rogue River national forest, and W. L. Jones, construction super intendent, with whom Mr. Rico was to confer on the road planning. . Forest Fire A crew of 13 men this afternoon was fighting a fire In Kinney gulch of the Rogue River national forest, eight miles south of Star ranger station In the Applegate district. The blaze was reported at 10 a. m. by a rancher and Albert Young, protective assistant, and a helper were dispatched from the ran ger station. When Mr. Young aaw the blaze from a hill he sent a call back for additional help and ten CCC enrollees from Camp Applegate were dispatched, headquarters here said. The fire was in pine timber nd covered several acres thia after noon, headquarters stated. Medford VWtnw Mr. and Mrs. Hugh O'H. Thompson and their daughter visited here Saturday with Mr. Thompson'a sisters, Mra. Patsy Brock and Miss Msxlne Thompson. Mr. Thompson has been on duty at the U. 8. radio station at Kllpsan. Wash., and. with his family, was en route to San Pedro, Cal., to report for service as radio man ftrst-claaf on the cruiser V'ncennes. On the way to Medford the family visited In Monmouth at the home of Mr. Thompson's brother. Mat R. Thomp son, formerly of Ashland. En route to San Pedro they were to apend two dava In Crescent City, Cal.. at th home of Mr. Thompson'a mother. Mrs. Patlenc O'H. Thompson, a for mer resident of Medford. PERSONAL Pleper Back Dean Pieper, Medford writer, returned Sunday evening from a week's sojourn in Los Angeles and Oceanslde. Cal. In the latter place he visited his mother. Mra. M. L. Wada. Richardson of Portland spent several daya here last week visiting his sister, Mrs. A. B, Myers at her home, 401 West Second street. Mr. Richardson Is associated with the Consolidated Freight Lines in Portland and came here from Marshfteld. He transact ed business while In thia city. ' Oarage Seorrhed A grass fire on Elm street early this afternoon spread to the private aaraem nf w a niiii-i- son at 1517 West Main atreet. The garage was slightly damaged. Origin of the grass fire was not determined. A chemical crew, dispatched to the grass btajie. telephoned for a hose truck to fight the garage blaze. The garage was scorched. Return Home Mrs. A. B. Myers and daughter, Maxine, of 401 West Second street returned to Medford yesterday from Butte Falls where they spent the week-end with Mr. Myers, who Is employed there. Mrs. Myers reported that her husband, ac companied by Carl Cobley and Char ley Francis, shot a deer near Rnlte Falls which weighed over 200 pounds. The men cut the deer In two to carry it out of the woods, but then discovered that it hari Hn nrvi. ously Injured and so they had to leave ii m me woods. Mrs. Myers said. Mrs. Myers and her daughter saw two deer In the road about 2 miles this side of Butte Falls, she added. CAUSE OF DISEASE IS SEEN IN DIET NEW YORK, Oct. 18. (UP) A substance common to whole wheat bread, oatmeal, commeal and sim ilar cereals Is the direct cause of dental decay and other "so-called diseases of civilization," the patho dontla section of the first district dental society of the state of New York was told last night. Dr. P. H. Beldlng. dentist, reported on 12 years of research conducted by his brother. Lieut. L. J. Beldlng of the U. S. navy, who Is a phy sician, which led to the conclusion that "diet of civilization Is directly related to dental varies (decay)." The known specific, he said, was a "degraded carbohydrate fraction." The related diseases he named in cluded cancer, appendicitis, arthritis, pernicious anemia, gall stones, renal calculus, peptic ulcer, coronary occlu sion, hypertension and rheumatism. Miss Lendt shares her glory with Mrs. David Wilcox, for merly a well-known Medford resi dent and the first to report a hole in one. U1RICH FINED $25 FOR DISGUISING DEER'S SEX Lewis Ulrlch. 65, of 839 Minnesota avenue, charged with disguising the sex of a deer, was found guilty by Oold Hill Justice of the Peace W. H. Ferguson yesterday, and fined $35 and costs of $4.50. Ulrlch first appeared In court October 10, following his arrest by state police, and pleaded not guilty. Justice of the Peace Ferguson took the case under advisement until October IT, and the trial was held yesterday. ' TELEVISION DISPLAY AT J'VILLE SCHOOL JACKSONVILLE. Oct. 18. (Spl.) He is seriously, but not critically injured. Mrs. O. C. Caley spent a good night, and her condition la the same. Mr. Caley's condition was re ported as good. Their auto skidded the Pacific highway Sunday night and crashed into a tree near Voorhlea crossing. Sham Battle. PORTLAND, Oct. 18. (Frantic report that two men were shooting at each other drew police to a south east Portland address yesterday.
