By DREW MIDDLETOX NEW YORK, Oct. 13. (AP) Twenty-five unbeaten football team, ell of major statu, face the first bis autumn shake -down Saturday. Seven garoea bring together palra of undefeated aggregation, eleven other groups take on major opposi tion capable of mearlnf their spot' less records. Eastern football provides a ma jority of the Inviolate elevens with two of them meeting Intersection! rivals. Pittsburgh, the ranking power. Journeys to Madison, Wis., to meet unbeaten Wisconsin and New York U., m greatly underrated group, en tertains North Carolina here. These are two of the beat. Pitt baa been traveling at a terrific pace and Is due for a let-down against a team that licked Marquette and Iowa. North Carolina, bouncing back from a trimming at Tulano, will be tough. Carnegie Tech's Sklboa, fresh from two easy killings, entertain Holy Cross, ranked with Dartmouth as New England's top team, In another clash of unbeaten forces. Brown, which surprised Harvard In Its open er, hopes to do the same against Dartmouth. The Bruins have good backs and a smart line, while Dart mouth showed the lack of a second running lineman against Princeton. Already victor over Colgate and Harvard, Cornell tackles Syracuse, always tough for the Big Red since the series was resumed In 1833. Cor nell has beaten the Orange only once since and Syracuse's emphatic tri umph over Maryland Indicates Ossle Sol em's boys have something. Colgate, aching for a victory, plays undefeated nd undermanned Co lumbia, which has played excellent football on two straight Saturdays. Here again the situation Is ripe for an upset. Princeton, which should Improve, plans on giving Penn's won der team a real tussle. Fordham, as yet untested, plays Purdue. Michigan's resurgent forces hardly seem up to the Minnesota standard aa these two unbeaten powers clash, but the Gophers will have to capi talize on scoring chances more often than against Purdue to beat the Wolverines. Mighty Alabama, which didn't look particularly Impreaslve downing North Carolina State, may have been play ing possum to beguile Tennessee. Also unbeaten, which Just managed to get by Auburn. Mississippi let down after opening with an upset win over Louisiana State and should have plenty to handle In Vanderbllt, which has beaten Kentucky. Duke, just good enough to beat a sub-par Colgate outfit, meets Geor gia Tech. Tech ta qnlte capable of an upset after losing to Notre Dame by only one touchdown last week. Notre Dame haa little to fear In Illinois, good and bad by turns.
